Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What skis to hire

Hi folks,

I need some advice as to what to ask for at the hire shop at my trip this year so as i don't sound like an uneducated fool!

I'm a 5 week skier, happy on blues and reds, can get down blacks with no style what so ever!, have little or no intention of going off-piste and am heading to Livigno. If it make a difference (i think it will!) i'm also a big bloke, 6'4", 15 stone but ski fairly smoothly.

So, any ideas what would be a suitable ski to ask for? I've skied on 170's and 175's recently, is this length about right??

Just tell them in the shop the truth. Don't big yourself up or thwy will give you too much of a ski.

Check out a Dynastar 4800 maybe in a 178. If you are not happy with what they give you bring it back and get it changed.
