Poster: A snowHead
|
my mate after years of sulking and moaning has got his wife to say yes to a ski holiday, he needs some help cause he does't want her to go for the 1st time and not enjoy it. She has never skied before so obviously wants a good ski school, she is fussy with food so Bulgaria/Romania etc is a no no, they want to ski to door, basically does anyone know a really good place that they will enjoy, not USA/Canada as she is a teacher they only have a week to go at w/c 12th Feb, also does anyone any good websites that they can book passes and ski school with the holiday.
Thanks in advance people

jase2472,
I would be inclined to avoid France as this is when their holidays start and it may be very busy.
I am not so sure how important door to door is for a beginner if the slopes either to or form the door are difficult there may be a longer walk than necessary for them. I think its ussually fine for beginners who are usually hiring thier equipmetnt to hire from a place near the lifts/ski school meeting place and get changed there.
If you do want door to door Obertauern and Oberlech (quite pricey) both in Austria will do it Wengen in Switzerland has several hotels that offer door to door skiing as do quite a few other places if you can get a map from the tourist office with the hotels and apartments on them.

If he wants to go this season he'd better get a move on as it's half term in some places (presumably that's why his wife can go). I'd recommend Austria; plenty of pretty resorts with lots of skiing below the tree line, often good for beginners, loads of mountain restaurants, decent enough grub, if not a gastronomic delight (so long as s/he's not veggie). We've been a few times to Kitzbuhel, which might suit them quite well, although there's no ski in ski out (there are lockers at the bottom of the main lift). They'll be lucky to get ski in ski out in somewhere notably attractive (which may not be important).

I've just booked Livigno in Italy for not much money. 5 minute walk from the slopes, lively place, may be of interest?
