The port of dover has closed this afternoon with no inbound ferries docking.
Operation Stack is in Op and the Tunnel has industrial action, I believe.
Bloody Priceless
They may be some relief at the Port of Dover when it is low tide.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

How bad is the industrial action at the tunnel? I guess that a closed port AND no/few trains will mean chaos for a few days as the backlog is cleared?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I am wrong.... I'm glad to say although there is talk of strike meetings today.
I believe that the Tunnel is taking its own customers and that is an undertsandable priority, and any facility to take the Ferries surplus has not been actioned yet. This might be reviewed subject to the tunnel having space.

The port is open now although there may be a backlog of 'Stack' but at least they stand a chance of whittling down the queues.
Next update tomorrow and I'll drive past/through any backlogs 1st thing

The port is running to schedule and the sea conditions are not bad at all
All problems on the M20 are because of French industrial action and Stack is in action between junctions 8 & 9 ( Maidstone)
and 11 & 12 which is Standford and Cherition. The stirke is supposed to involve Freight only but tourist traffic gets caught up in the jams.
To reach Dover consider the M2 and for the Tunnel use the A20 alternatives certainly from Ashford Junction 10 onwards. It may well be better to come off at junction 8 at Leeds just east of Maidstone but I haven't travelled that route this morning

I believe the tunnel action (sounds a bit kinky) is only related to Freight traffic

Dover is getting jammed with lorries coming over from the Tunnel. Avoid the M20 if poss. The idea is that cars get through on the M20 and the lorries get diverted to stack on sections of the motorway while cars get diverted onto the A20. However the sheer volume of FR8 does hinder this, best to avoid if poss. Take the A2 and factor in delays.

I drove back from Dover along the M20 @1830 and no sign of seeing an end to the backlog. I am not sure if the tunnel has resumed normal service and if it hasn't then those lorries may go on to Dover if they have booked with a Ferry operator that will accept tunnel tickets. This recipricol arrangement works for the larger carriers but is discretionary. Operators will take their own customers first generally.
I would imagine that the M2/A2 would have to disbar lorries on the way to Dover if it isn't to be affected and I don't know if they have done this.
The bottlenck that I saw at 1930 would have been on the last stretch into Dover from the M20 and it may be a good idea to stay on the old A20 into Dover and then you will just have local and Port traffic for a few hundred yards. By the same token if Jubilee Way is choked - the M2/A2 way into the port - take the Dover Castle road.
If you need more specific directions, I'll try to log back on later this evening
