 Poster: A snowHead

I am going to Arinsal, Andorra, on 24th Dec and it looks like there is virtually no snow over there! I know nothing about snow and conditions - I think there is another couple of centimetres due this week and hopefully a bit more next week, and the resort has a number of snow cannons. Does anyone know if this is likely to be enough snow to snowboard on, or am I in for a really rubbish (/cancelled) first snowboarding experience?!

If it's your first time snowboarding you'll enjoy it regardless. Just make sure you wear wrist guards. The first time I boarded there was grass coming through the snow and pools of water at the bottom but I still loved it.
And if you are not enjoying it, either rent snow shoes or bring some hiking boots, the mountains are great fun on or off snow.

chris_h, get insurance that covers you for piste closure.
Arinsal is bloody good for nightlife though- El Cau and the Red X are 2 V good ones. Surf bar is pretty fun too! Take your swimmers as you can go to the massive Spa in Andorra La Vella- or pick up some tax free bargains in the shops there!

chris_h, I think it's pretty cold at the moment so the snow cannons will be working. I think you will be OK as there is (limited) skiing there at the moment with about 5% of slopes open.

As a beginner you will need just a handful of slopes to ski on during your first week. Even with only 5% open, that should be plenty for a first-timer.

take hiking boots AND rent some snow shoes (you need firm footwear to strap the snowshoes on). But I agree with the posts above. You are lucky, as a beginner boarder you will get loads of fun from a small amount of terrain. Don't despair.

I'd take some cushioned pants and some Ibuprofen oh and a good book.
