Poster: A snowHead
|
Many will know but many wont - www.wikipedia.org has become pretty much the standard destination apart from Google for info on just about everything. I have found it's winter sports coverage patchy at best - it's very US centric. Just thought that the snowheads with their depth of experience might want to wade in there and flesh it out some more. Trust me I'm nothing to do with the site, I was just shocked that as of a year ago there wasn't even entries for some of the big European resorts, I personally did the first LDA one - subsequently quite well updated I thought - but not comprehensive.
Anyway just thought people might be interested.

ChickenDhansak, there is a snowHeads wikipedia although uptake is currently low... |
There is a PisteHors wiki which covers French resorts, particuarly, but not only, off piste. Coverage of ski resorts is pretty extensive compared to Wikipedia.

I started the La Grave one, it's now been taken to the appropriate level by others, the spirit of Wikipedia.

stoatsbrother, I have it on good authority that there are ways and means to make sure the entry isn't removed if we wanted to try again

flicksta, good effort - one of the better ones. stoatsbrother, I think in generaly the community doesn't like it if it looks like your trying to sell or divert traffic to particular web-site - they must get spammed to buggery. The snowheads wiki is fine, if a little underpopulated, but just thinking of the greater good.

ChickenDhansak, we got removed by one of the editors on "notability" despite links from the Times and BBC. There are some much sadder things on it than sH, believe me, I looked...

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

stoatsbrother, what could be sadder than sH? Haven't you seen the discussions about boots? One more thread about what's the best pole length for 33.4cm of wet to claggy fresh snow would make us geeks in all but 7 of the languages used by mankind.

I've been looking at www.wikiski.com It seems to be a bit angled towards Aust & NZ, but it has a good worldwide coverage and interesting sections on backcountry and history. With a few contributuions from us it could become a really good worldwide wiki for skiers!
