Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I'm off skiing for New Year (Saas Valley) and want to be fitter than I am now - particuarly for my knees. My first proper ski holiday in March left me with a sore left knee (outside of my knee) and I would like to be better prepared this time. I do have gym membership but can generally only get there at the weekend though in the the school holidays, I could go more often.
Is there someone who can tell me what to do/concentrate on? Or is there a book/website/DVD that might help? I'm not having lessons this time (I can do easy reds confidently and unfortunately just couldn't fit in the lessons this time) and the plan is to be able to ski with OH and some friends.
I would LOVE some advice - you are all so wonderful here and so friendly!

, a "sort left knee (outside of my knee)" isn't normal and could indicate that you either damaged your Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL) on the holiday or have a longstanding injury that skiing is aggrevating.
I'd suggest investing in a trip to a physio to have it checked out properly.

I find Squash is a great conditioner for my ski holiday.
I do play to a good level mind.
its a great fitness workout for cardio as it is. But all the lunging and twisting strengthens the back and legs.

, I find walking up and down steep hills (mountains) the best training for skiing. Cycling uphill is also a good exercise too.
