Hi people,
Fisrtly I explain my case: My ski level is good, I ski all the mountain as hard as I can (I'm a good rider, not an extrem rider), focused in off-piste (and good perfomance in piste, of course). I have the feet wide at the forefoot (about 100mm or more), a relative narrow heel, and a big big (and hard) calves. My instep is relatively low. Ahh!! more... standing in a normal position my feet are, a little, like a duck (sorry but I don't know the name for this...)
After a years of pain, I decided to replace these old boots (8 years old, about 150-200 skiing days). With these ones, the lasts seasons, I have problems with fit, my heels weren't been subjected, and if I press more my calves were RIP:oops: So, at every stop or lift I have to open the boots....
The last week I was looking boots in different shops, asking at "supposed" experts about what kind of boot I will have to try, or asking about differents between models and between brands.......And I think that I'm more confused now that the past sunday!!!
All of them conclude that I will go for a boot about 100 flex index, and for the feet morphologie they said that first they had to see and measure it (one have an automatic machine that take the important measurements, and another shows me a kind of material that your weight's pressure mark the "thing" and then he knows your "points of support") and depending on this go for try 2-3 different boots...
Until here, OK, I know it before talk with them...
But then we start speak about brands and models, one show me the Salo X-wave 10, Lange 100 (not fluid model, because they said that is more "cruising" but i don't know if exists other models with 100 flex), rossi B14, and atomic race model to taste the feeling of race fit. When I ask about Salo falcon model he didn't know it!!! They explained me that assist a lot of tests, and that only have at the shop the boots that he personally try....but, falcon is the salomon flag for this season!! About Nordica, he said that it's old design, not good, a waste of time and money....
Another say me that we will try Lange fluid (100 FR), salo X-wave 10 and salo falcon 10, nordica hot... (I don't remember, the yellow ones) and Lange CRL (or something similar)
Asking about footbeds one of them answered OK, we can study if you need and do it, another said: No, it's and old thing, now nobody recommend it......
OK, about methodology of choosing a boot all people say the same (And before "visits" I think the same, so not much progress), but about brands..... a lot of opinions........
Can you help me, do a little review for the boots mentioned and add to the list some that I will have to try too....

AlTom, I would say ignore the brands, and go for the fit. Where are you going to for the bootfitting?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I agree with Wear the Fox Hat - I got new boots last season after have a painful pair.
Don't look at the brand, just go to a decent fitter be honest about your ability and follow their advice.

Walk away. The Nordica Dobermann boot and it's forebearers have won more races than probably any other boot.
About the flex - it is not generally possible to compare the flex from one brand to another.
A good bootfitter will look at your feet and come out with 3 boots for you to try on. Ignore brands! and colours!

AlTom, It doesn't sound to me as though these shops knew what they were talking about. It is clear that they just wanted to sell the models in the shop. I'm not a boot expert, but the fit of a Lange and a Salomon are completely different as far as I know, so that shop should be ignored. Also the person who told you footbeds were old - ignore. CEM and SMALLZOOKEEPER on this forum are both expert bootfitters, so if they don't come on this thread fairly soon, I suggest you send them a private message. Good luck. BTW the make is not important, only in as far as if affects the fit.

easiski, Depends which Salomons. I tried Lange FR's, Rossignol Bandits and Salomon Pro Model Gun last season and all were fairly similar in type of fit. Langes were the narrowest of the bunch.

veeeight, Agreed, Nordica Old Fashioned! The Speedmachine ios probably the most advanced boot, in terms of design on the market and practically everything on the market that works, is a Grand Prix in concept.

SMALLZOOKEEPER, But can you give this poor any advice on where, near him, he can get a decent pair of boots properly fitted?

This is nonsense, from personal experience blue boots fit well and are pretty comfortable ,White boots are so so and grey boots are agony. Don't believe all you read here.

T Bar, that is just wrong! Blue boots are too stiff and too small across the wide part of the foot. Grey/red is the comfy colour combo.

richmond,
These know nothing London lawyers, Grey Red is just so last year this year it is a) Too wide over the instep and b) Does not have the correct flexionTorque ratio for advanced carving besides which it does not go with my lime green trousers.
It's Blue I tell you for boots.
