Poster: A snowHead

Reiteralm (Schladming area) and the so called Four-Mountain-Area has received 80 cm fresh snow since the beginning of November.
Thanks to the ideal conditions, the resort opens this week-end.
B. Raich and M. Matt, the members of the Austrian national ski team moved here from the glacier pistes to continue their training.
Other resorts nearby - Planai or Hauser Kaibling - are also possible to open this week-end.

kerekip, Fantastic Wish I could be there.
Looking at the web-cams, there is snow at the 1200m level on Hauser Kaibling, but it is still mainly green at village level (which, is the same level as the base of Reiteralm, where the website shows 50cm).

Ray Zorro, Wish I could be there too!
Hauser Kaibling opens the next weekend (Nov 18-19)
They invested a huge amount of money in artificial snowmaking this year.
Reiteralm is still ready to open this weekend. Only 3 pistes for 34,5 Euros a day, but it must be fun to ski on the first (not glacier) resort to open this season in Austria.
Schmittenhöhe at Zell am See may open this weekend as well.

We love it here. We can see some of the Flachau runs from our living room window along with the Radstadt and a bit of Altenmarkt. Things are getting very exciting round here now!

I'm not a fair weather skier and unless the wind is strong enough to blow me off balance it's not a problem.
Visibilty wasn't always good but the main piste was great for that time of year (no brown patches and very few obstacles poking through the snow). Just to the side of the main piste were two other pistes and these were ungroomed with shallow powder conditions. The heavy snow and wind were filling in the tracks for us ready for the next run.
