"Long ago"? Do you mind? My first skiing, in 1970/71, IIRC, was done with bindings just like that. 'Step ins', as the new fangled design was called, were around, but cost more so we didn't get them.
Good stuff. There's something strangely nostalgic about old ski photos and posters (preferably a bit older than this, if you don't mind).
