Poster: A snowHead

Anyone know if it's possible to buy skis in pre painted, pre graphics (ie plain) condition? I've got some designs I would like to try out and don't want to have too strip off laquer and paint from new skis.

chris, I don't think you'll find that skis are painted in the normal way of thinking. The design is printed onto a special carrier sheet and laminated under the clear topsheet in a vacuum autoclave press. Elan have a system where you send them the design and they will build a board for you.
one option for you is to have your design sublimate printed onto exterior grade s/a advertising vinyl and stick it over the existing topsheet though I think it will take several attempts to source the right sublimate, glue and durability to keep it on for a season and to hide the existing design.

Probably not strictly relevant, but rossignol scratch sprayer fs come plain with stencils. If you're just interested in messing about with designs then that might be handy, they must be designed to take paint well, but if you want a serious pair of skis you can customise I suppose thats no good.

Thanks for all the info. My idea is to try and buy plain white skis and then apply the design via water slide transfers. Once I'm happy with the art I would spray them with a plastic based laquer.element, those ski's may be OK if they come in plain white. Cheers all.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

David Murdoch, I have the only 'Southpark' snowboard in the World
Had a full Carbon Fibre one once . . . so stiff it was unridable . . you couldn't bend it with the ends on chairs and standing in the middle.
