When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Glen Plake signs to Elan
Fall-line have just reported from the Manchester ski-show that Elan have officially announced their signing of the most photogenic skier on the planet: Glen Plake. Famous from countless films over recent decades, including the confirmed snowHeads' favourite, the Blizzard of Ahhhs, Plake has always maintained a 'unique' profile in the industry.
The move is all the more surprising as he's been on K2's for the last 20 years!

As part of the deal, Plake will be involved with the R&D department at Elan to create a new generation of freeride and freestyle ski shapes incorporating and using Elan’s ski building expertise and proprietary technologies.

Glen’s wife Kimberly will also join the Elan team working with the W Studio women’s program as a member of the design and development team. Kimberly Plake is a nationally ranked waterskier, as well as one of the hottest women mogul skiers in the USA.

Elan's other "signed" skier is, of course, Ingemar Stenmark who is also heavily involved in the R&D. Plake & Stenmark are at entirely different ends of the personality spectrum so it'll be interesting to see what direction the brand takes.

The Dalbello~Elan organization in the USA seems to be accumulating an impressive roster of famous skiers. Women’s skiing pioneer Kim Reichhelm, currently will also be working with Elan Skis to direct the North American division of its “W Studio” for women. The “W Studio” is a division within the Elan company, exclusively staffed by women who are dedicated to the creation, design, and development of skis uniquely engineered for women skiers. In her new position Kim will be analyzing, researching, and testing women’s-only ski shapes and constructions with women skiers throughout North America.
