Poster: A snowHead

Looking to change things up a bit next season & fancy going back to Norway but try Kvitfjell this time.
Transfers will be by train from Oslo Gardemoen with the last bit by car. Just wondering if anyone can help with how busy the trains are on a Sat or Sun & what the luggage/ski stowage is like?
We did the train from Geilo to the Flam railway once & the teatime return was rammed so have a few hesitations when loaded with luggage.
Any advice appreciated. Cheers.

@Chuckles3, Have you not considered a hire car?
We've just returned from a 2-centre trip to Hemsedal/Norefjell and a 4wd hybrid Toyota was only £170 : much cheaper than the Alps (& the service was exemplary)
Great thing with a car is you can then visit other local resorts such as Gausdal & Hafjell which are 28 & 19mls from Kvitfjell respectively.
Also if you make it a 2-centre trip you can ski for ½ of the last day as Hafjell is only 100mls from the airport (prob still able to do that from Kvitfjell which is 130mls to Gardermoem)

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@geoffers, We have considered it but we’ve found a very keenly priced (for Norway) offer with Crystal (plus we have a voucher to use). As they include train/bus transfer we’d be mad not to use them. MrC is just hesitant in case the train is rammed.
We’ve done Hafjell twice before - took an evening trip to watch the ski jumpers training in Lillehammer once. We were allowed to climb to the top - it was some view. Not sure it’s even there any more though.
We’ll certainly give it some thought though.

I remember as a kid being impressed with climbing to the top of the Holmenkollen ski jump in Oslo, then swimming in the lake at the bottom which is the landing area (on a summer hols trip )

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Not done the train to Kvitfjell or Lillehammer, but once did Oslo-Hemsedal.
The train was spotless and roomy - with plenty of space for bags and skis - and a standard seat was far more comfortable than First Class in the UK. Even though it was high season and a weekend there was plenty of space, but we had remembered to book our seats.
The station for Hemsedal was about 20 minutes from the town itself and was a little halt with a platform and a small wooden station building. We arrived in the middle of a snowstorm and it took a while for everyone to disembark and work out where to go next, by which time the only taxi had left, leaving about 8 of us at the station. We asked the man in the ticket office/signal box/information desk what we should do. He asked how many of us there were, and then said that there was no problem. He would ring his friend the taxi driver, who would come back in about 40 minutes time to pick everyone up. In the meantime, if we cared to go into the little waiting room opposite (which looked like someone's front room as painted by Carl Larsson) we could help ourselves to coffee, tea, and pepparkakor ginger biscuits. So a random group of international strangers sat down in front of a log fire, someone opened a bottle of schnaps, and by the time we got to Hemsedal an hour or so later, we were all the best of friends and in great spirits.

@quinton, Thanks for the info, it’s very helpful.
We love the Norwegians, always had exceptional times on our trips, but boy, do they know how to party hard!
