Austrian Qualified Ski Instructors
Are there many (British) Austrian qualified instructors out there (as I am) who might like to chat about the TSV?

skiday, do you normally teach in Austria? If so, will you be out there this season and whereabouts?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Basically The Ski Welt, Tirol in January only. Are you looking for lessons or are you another pro?
Love to hear from you.

skiday, I'm not a pro but an under confident skier looking for some lessons. Does Kitzbuhel count as Ski Welt? We'll be there 20-27 Jan and I'm looking to get probably 3 mornings private tuition. I was going to book with Black Sheep Ski but hadn't actually booked anything. If you were available then I may well be interested, spesh as you specialise in people like me!
Have you been teaching long and could I ask what your qualifications are?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Hi Cathy
Kitz is not quite Ski Welt unless they change the ski pass situation this year, but it is drivable. This means you have to pay for a pass for me, but I will not ask for petrol money. One or two intensive day(s) would therefore be best. Or if you have your car you can meet me in the Ski Welt.
I am qualified as with the Tiroler Schilehrerverband as Anwarter since 1997 and have been working all seasons since then. I am 45. If you give your e-mail I can send an image of my Ausweiss (Certificate). I base my private (cash in hand) work as 3/4 of what you would pay ski-school for the same (into £STG). Early in your holiday would be best in order to put what you learn into practice. I will also offer you (as a fellow snowhead) a satisfaction guarantee, if you feel you have not benefited from my tuition, then no charge.
If you order my DVD off my web site, I will deduct that £15 from any full day lesson you take with me.
I would like to point out that I have never heard of 'Black Sheep' until now (despite living in Soll) but I'm sure they would also be excellent. Also they will have (I trust) public liability insurance (justifying top dollar) whereas I do not (which means you would need to sign a waiver) If this is important to you, you should go with them.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Andrew

We used a Black Sheep instructor last year in Soll.
Had a really good afternoon -3 hours I think, cost us 35 euros each.
6 of us if memory serves.
I would definitely use them again.

Thanks skiday, that is very informative and helpful. I do find a full day of private intuition a bit intensive which is why I'd prefer just mornings. A few people here have been with Black Sheep & recommended them. I'll have a think over and PM you if needbe. Many thanks.
Thanks kermit, that's very good to know.

skiday, Seems as though you'er in a minority - I have full equivalence with Staedledt..... does that count? Pity you're not around full time - I don't have anyone to recommend in Austria apart from Stubaital.

I hold the Austrian qualification, but from the Salzburger SV. The language barrier puts most Brits off I think!

nice, Yes - but which level?

Nice
Do you find the Salzburger SV open to new ideas from the grass roots, or shut in their own world in a kind of 'This is how we do things here' kind of way (like the TSV)?
Cheers

I'm thinking you must be English. Was it hard to get permission from the French ski authorities to set up you own ski-school? I didn't think too much of lessons in France when I was there (as a tourist). Is it your mission to make things better? I can't think your there to make millions as I know how hard it is to make a good profit running a small ski school. (Although I hope you are doing well.)
All the best

easiski, I only have the Anwaerter as yet (Dual ski & snowboard). Going to enter for my Landes 1 this year.
skiday, Interesting question, I think they are pretty much stuck in their own ways (although I don't have any experience with the TSV). I was taught to snowboard by a CASI instructor, and when I used some of the Canadian methods I was told this was wrong. For the examination I did it all their way, but my teaching now doesn't stick to these methods. I use lots of different things picked up from instructors qualifed from all over the world. So yes, I suppose you're right!

skiday, No - it's not difficult as we're all Europeans they can't stop you as long as you have the full equivalence. Now, the top (National) levels in Austria, Italy, France and GB are all homologated so the new young instructors when they get ISTD qualified can work anywhere.
Good luck with the Landes this year.
