george_1, send us your CV, we will be looking for a ski-host/driver for next season. You'll have to have a good standard of skiing, preferably with a ski related qualification, be a qualified first-aider and you need to have a clean driving licence with at least one year's driving experience. If you believe you fit the bill, let us hear from you. Usual crap saisonaires wages but you get all the skiing you can manage, a seasons lift pass, your own room and all your living expenses are met. george_1, First aid courses are usually run by The Red Cross, St Johns Ambulance, or even your FE college. Look up the addresses in the phone book or yellow pages. Couses are 2,3,4, days. Check each and compare costs as they do vary.

thanks alot, thats all amazing help, i have my basic first aid but im looking into doing a full course through work (working at a skatepark full of reckless kids!!)
ive skiid for quite a while, id say im a confident intermediate but hopefully i will have improved by next season.

I am thinking of getting a job next season after finishing my degree. As my Cv is not bursting with work experience I am going on one of the Anything Technical courses mentioned on the natives website. These cost a few hundred quid though. I am a reasonable piste skier but do struggle when going off-piste. The first aid course sounds like a good idea too boost the Cv too.

Edmundh009, my CV isnt exactly bursting either... ive got my GCSEs and my AS levels. as for work experience, when i did my work experience 2 years ago i got offered a job, and im still there! i am proud of my first aid and food hygiene though.

Why is it bar work you are looking for. If you have a food hygiene certificate you could do some chalet work. I think bar work tends to be oversubscribed and quite competitive. There is loads of info on the natives forums which I think you may find useful.

yeah ive been looking at chalets and alot of people are looking for drivers/over 20's and at the moment i am not adriver and wont be 20 for another couple of years! ill have a look in the forum, thanks alot!

Alot of the driving jobs require being able to drive a minibus anyway, meaning Im out. I hate driving in the snow anyway. Chalet staff seem to have decent working hours anyway, have you looked at being a plongeur, apparently though they may be at the bottom of the food chain they can get more skiing than most in.

Surely most of the jobs listed on natives provide accomodation. They cover your accomodation lift pass and food usually for a whole season. Thats why they pay so little. I prefer this approach, someone to do some of the donkey work for me at least for my first season. I think wages seem to be around £60-£100 per week. I really want to go out to Canada myself, fingers crossed.

johnboy, Although Nadennoodlee knows much more than me, I suggest Silver ski and Erna Low should be your first ports of call if you get that break

george_1, I did my first season when I was 18 with Crystal. It was 12 years ago so I'm not sure if they still accept young'uns, but judging by the staff in Verbier I'd say yes.
Apply to all the big tour operators, it shouldn't be too late. Cyrstal, First Choice, Ski World yada yada... They all give accom, lift pass, equipment hire, insurance & beer money.

george_1, look at Natives. Start applying in June/July (no earlier or your cv will end up lost/in the bin) and carry on right up until the season starts. At 18, you'll be lucky to get bar work, might get a chalet position particularly if you've done a cooking course, will certainly get hotel work as long as you're even slightly presentable. Highly unlikely to get repping work or driving (insurance issues with rental vehicles).
Meantime, get yourself some relevant experience - bar, kitchen work, waiting, anything involving customer service. Don't waste your money on a food hygiene certificate - your employer will put you through one anyway, usually regardless of whether or not you've done it before. It's very boring, so you really don't want to do it twice. Wouldn't bother with the Caterer either - all the basic stuff is advertised on Natives (I assume you're not looking to do hotel manager just yet )
TO jobs typically provide accommodation, basic health/belongings insurance (but not ski insurance), travel to/from resort, uniform, equipment for skiing (but generally not boarding), full board, uniform, lift pass, pittance wage.
You can apply through Natives, but I recommend applying direct via companies websites. I've seen what Natives sends to HR departments, and you stand a better chance if you fill in the company's own application form. You can usually either submit your application online or download the form and fill it in.

As for Austria
If you do not want to work for a UK tour company it may be worth considering working in a Hotel . It has its advantages . Although you will work 6 days a week , pay is much better than UK tour companys. ,accomodation & food is nearly allways included.

From 1st Oct 2006 chalet operators will struggle to exclude on age ie exlcuding the under 20s due to age discrim legislation. Reuiring driving licence will be permissible if necessary for the job

stanton, you have to speak German, though. UK schools are not obliged to teach modern languages, with the result that most of our youths don't speak any. (Lots of them don't speak their own language to any high standard either.)

Theres lots of Hotel jobs that are not customer facing, that do not require German. Most these employees are non-german speakers.

wow, thanks for all the help with this, im actually working through this season in the UK so I can save up some money to go away next year. i was pretty gutted about not being able to afford to do anything this year but i have been offered some free accomadation in the alps for a few weeks so im very excited about that!
Lizzard, stanton, I do speak a fair amount of german, i studied it in school and feel i know enough to get me by. im going to spruce up my CV and get sorted for next season, when me and 2 of my good friends will be looking for chalet work, hopefully together, we make a pretty dynamic team, 2 of us being chefs, and I have experience as a first aider and also coach large groups (BMX riding and skateboarding) and the other guy is a waiter, even though that isnt massive experience, i reckon he could probably clean toilets quite well
