Gstaad : How are conditions typically in early March ?

Hi , I'm hoping to honeymoon in Gstaad next year but the fiancee is worried about what the conditions might be like in Gstaad during early March. She has a guide book which warned about the low altitude leading to possible snow issues. We booked flights into Geneva from the US, so we do have some options as far as trying other places, but my strong first preference would be to visit Gstaad. Part of the reason is that the SO is not likely to ski every day of the visit, and she'd probably have more fun in the village there than in some of the other possible resort choices.

Any opinions on Gstaad's conditions in early March ?

AKR, ise no longer posts on snowheads, but you could get him on the forum over at http://mysnowsports.com

He did a lot of skiing in Gstaad last year, so is probably a good person to ask.

However, if you're coming all the way from the US, I'd have a look at either Zermatt or the Jungfrau region (Wengen, Grindelwald, Murren), as they have some of the most outstandingly beautiful mountains in the alps. Gstaad is nice but has nothing so awe-inspiring.

If you're worried about altitude, Zermatt has much higher skiing as well.

AKR, there are obviously no guarantees, but early March "should" be okay. If you had booked late March you would be taking a real chance. Gstaad's slopes are low but generally north-facing and quite extensive when you add all the seperate areas together. The skiing is largely intermediate. It is not likely to be 100% open but if you're not skiing everyday there should be enough terrain to keep you occupied.

However, Zermatt is better in every way other than skiing for beginners. If you're not beginners, go to Zermatt.

(Also thanks for the other resort suggestions but have been to Zermatt already)
I don't think my fiancee would be comfortable with the skiing there, unfortunately.
