Poster: A snowHead
|
Ok folks, i have a question that i need answering.
At the moment i don't have my own pair of boots. I have never owned a pair despite skiing for a minimum of 1 week (mostly 2 weeks) per year for the last 5 years or so. I have always just put off by the expence and dealt with the hire boots that i have been given. This year i will be doing 1 week and maybe a couple of long weekends somewhere, and feel i may treat myself.
So here is my question(s) - Should i buy? is it worth the expence for 1 or 2 weeks per year? Also, how much can i realistically expect to pay? I realise a lot of this will be related to which boots fit my feet, but at the same time i don't want to spend £300 on a pair. If you need any more info on me to answer these questions please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

stevec, Search the archives and you'll find lots of good advice re:boots and more will follow on this thread no doubt. Definitely get your own, find a good bootfitter, get some custom footbeds and you may even spend less than £300 (I think I spent £240 in total).

stevec, Yes you'll see a benefit. Your own boots will fit you better than hire boots, which means you'll get more feedback from the ski, and be able to more accuratly control them.
The best thing to do is invest some time with a good bootfitter - CEM or SZK and have them advise you.
To give you a (not very good) example, the children I coach to race usually gain 0.5 of a second (out of 10 seconds) when they have their own boots.
