Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

A properly fitted pair of boots, appropriate to your ability, will make more of a difference to your skiing than any other single item of equipment.
One of the biggest causes of skiers not advancing quickly in skill is rental boots, or badly fitted and adjusted boots.
Take your time, and try different brands and different models. Get a boot-fitter to set your boots up. When you buy skis, get the boots set up for those bindings on the skis, so that you can get the best out of them.

The Salomon SX91
Arguably the cleverest ski boot ever designed (launched 1983, from memory): superbly easy to enter, the most effective flex control ever designed, very good heel hold down, very easy to walk in. Great to ski in.
Unlike a 4-clip boot, just two chunky clips at the back of the boot closed it and tightened it. Both these clips 'memorised' their settings so there was no fumbling around with pesky little clips and alternative notches for them.
Most racers shunned rear-entry boots, even ones as good as this. But punters adored them.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

, Excellent flex and comfort i grant you, however no return to neutral was it's major flaw and hense modern day clog/coller construction.

I could have sworn there was a post in this thread by Miss Odin about New Rock boots...
