Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

This has been on the cards for a couple of years now, but still a shame to hear it's finally happened.
There will no longer be lift-served skiing off the top of the Stockhorn, which on a good day can look like this:

But on the other hand, those with good lungs will still be able to hike up there and get freshies....

Although the skiing from them was great, those tiny little cable cars used to scare the poo-poo out of me.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I thought this run of two cable cars is quite large. I certainly didn't have any apprehension using it this March. It would be a shame to decommission the lift.
It doesn't look as popular as the others but Gornergrat can be reached by the mountain railway and so a lift system going Hohtalli higher up is always in demand. The news suggests there won't be a replacement and to get to Hohtalli one has to ski down the mountain to catch the Gant-Hohtalli cable car. A new drag lift replacing the cable car run from Hohtalli to Stockhorn is on the card.
I suppose the wind could make many cable cars unusable in many Alpine resorts and a cheap alternative is to replace them with drag lifts. The drag lift X1 and X4 at Zermatt stand out as the worst feature im my mind about this resort.

Yes, I heard about this when I was in Zermatt in April. First and only time I've used it, was awesome at the top.
