Yep. I'm not really into ski porn but these are very watchable. The touches of humour are great.

Brilliant stuff - binge watched after someone else posted them on here, think it was bobinch or valaise, can't remember but, yes, highly entertaining & edumacational
I've been watching them all, some really good footage and Cody et al come across as down to earth and genuine guys. Some of the stuff they ski is so gross, sheet ice!
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

He's very unassuming and relatable to us mere mortals. "Downhill skinning - the most extreme part of the day!"
Great series. Find it really interesting to contrast the caution they show, skiing without back-up (heli's, camera crews, etc) when compared with a lot of the stuff you see in other films. Also the warts and all bits, when stuff goes wrong, the getting lost and the bailing out when conditions aren't right, getting up in the morning at silly o'clock, and the bush-whacking in and out.
The latest episode (22) where they miss the trail is great and the ski back to the trucks are a good example...

@adithorp,
Yes "real world extreme skitours".

It is a wonderful series. It isn't just the humour, although humour is an important part of it. It is that it shows the decision making and all the hassle and negative stuff that goes with ski touring. They screw things up, they get frightened, the snow is rubbish, they turn around because they're worried about stability and so on. All that important stuff that gets left out of most ski movies but is much closer to our experiences of skiing than heliskiing in Alaska or whatever.
Reality is for me, ski touring is increasingly like watching test cricket. It's really expensive and I have quite a few crap days on the hill (I had a recent one in Les Menuires after the rain in early Feb that was so incredibly bad I wanted to burn my skis) but when it's good, it's amazing. The Fifty captures a lot of that really well.

I liked the bit with the guy overskiing into the car park.

Bjarne is the man! Who says men can't multitask? Watch from 8min here where he skis, deals with the rope and films it...
Yep been enjoying it. Good when he talks gear though of course he's sponsored by salomon for skis and boots, which limits the range of views a tad. He did a gear review of his bag contents, quite geeky but interesting . Be warned one episode features a monoski, but actually quite impressive.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Funny I was thinking about ski-porn videos yesterday as I was out kitesurfing in some challenging big seas and winds, and found myself in the middle of a photo-shoot with a couple of top kiters who I know boosting massive air and loops over me, the analogy sort of being there you are ripping the off-piste up thinking you're doing well when all of a sudden the likes of Cody come ripping, or jumping past/over you
You know it makes sense.

That was an incredibly stupid thing to do, great viewing though

Reckon I’m a better bike rider than Cody Townsend and a better skier than Alex Honnold. Go me!
Actually I got heat stroke once cycling and ended up lying in a ditch until our support van came out looking for me. It’s pretty grim

The bike bit was stupid. How can they manage to set off skinning to these climbs when it's still dark but not manage to do the same cycling from the hottest place on the planet?
Not sure if, having not skied for 2 years, I'd want to click in there... Actually I am sure I wouldn't. Good demonstration of the importance of nailing side-slipping.
snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

@adithorp, maybe they were trying to time their arrival at the trailhead so they could basically transition straight to skis? But yes, not the best decision in hindsight

@SnoodlesMcFlude, @adithorp,
Yeah, I can't understand what their plan was. I saw on one of their Instagrams that they were trying to do the whole thing in 24hrs, but you'd still think they would've taken the heat into consideration.

Not one of the better episodes to be honest.
In principle it's a great idea but it's not great watch.

@Arno, I think it was intended to get there in time to sleep properly, then do the skiing in the morning.
@Layne, I quite liked it, something a bit different compared to the usual stuff....other than The Mountain Why
Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:

I don't think Cody's matt black cycling kit and helmet were the best choice for the conditions
Death Valley lives up to it's name here.

Love this series though, It shows the tough descisions that have to be made at various points in each trip and that it is not just about macho skiing skill.
Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

In which case why not start early in the morning rather than at midday?
Cody posted somewhere earlier that it was basically his first time contending with heat and he hadn't realised the effect it would have. He also said he and Alex are both up for another attempt.

He does seem to be someone who doesn't like being defeated by a challenge.
@Layne, I guess he sees this one as an easy one - plenty of silly mistakes he can fix to make it a lot easier.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I think they’re all good in different ways. I like that he is very open and honest and discusses lessons to be learned on camera, and shows the mistakes/ struggles etc. It keeps the format fresh. Not every day in the mountains is smooth or successful or without challenge, and this series makes that clear, unlike some others. I’m much more interested in watching this than the slick stunts on many pre-season ski films - yes, they’re very slick and fun to watch (and I do enjoy them), but this is really educational, and it is good to see someone operating at a fairly high level being open about their mistakes.

I think it was mentioned in another thread but anyway here is the latest video which I found pretty interesting, in the sense of really it wasn't a trip that went too well and was my old ski buddies would call "an adventure":

Does anyone know if Cody is going to do more summits this year, or any more films to come from last winter at all?
Last one I watched was released Dec 2021 36/50

The ones from last season are due out next week. I think he only had one left to do in the lower 48 states. So the remaining ones will be almost all Canada and Alaska.
I don’t know if he might delay them in order to do a tribute to his friend Hilaree Nelson who just died in an accident in the Himalayas (there is a separate thread on this).
