Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Boosterstraps - worth getting?

New season, and the mind wanders to new gear. As the title asks, are they?

@ster, I think they've prolonged the efficacy of my ancient boots. I felt that they had begun to get a bit flappy and the booster straps really helped me work for my turns.

Yep. They work wonders on your boots for not much money. They allow you to crank the strap a bit tighter without it being uncomfortable or cutting the blood supply to your foot. However, because it's stretchy, it feels very progressive when you flex it - rather than the on/off feeling of a standard strap. It got rid of the shin bang I was getting in bumps with my last boots. Deffo recommended.

I replaced my straps with them because the velcro was getting knackered. Best change I've ever made to kit.

Looking further into the original Booster straps out of the US, they seem a bit amateurish - spelling mistakes on website, not great vids on how to fix and fixings not supplied.

Anyone used these? Any disasters or tips as many old velcro straps seem to need to have their rivets drilled out and fixings you buy yourself for the new booster strap.

Any others worth considering?

@ster, They were originally designed for race boots that don't use rivets to attach components.

I have a pair that I used on my previous boots, didn't bother transferring them to the current boots.

K2 Ski boots have de-branded versions on some models, eg Recon 130LV, my 2025 go to piste boots, as of yet not used.
I've used them a few years back on a pair of Tecnica Diablo race boots, the straps themselves were pretty good but the boots way too narrow.
I like the layers of pretty strong elasticated strapping and a single rocker ratchet to tighten up. Simples and effective, and also means I don't have to over tighten the top buckle on the boots cutting of circulation to feet/calf, or causing cramping of gastro-muscles.

The booster strap itself is a solid addition to any performance ski boot where the stock strap is cheapo and feeble.

I rejuvenated my 12 year old piste boots with these, much better than the originals, especially when run under the shell of the boots at the front as suggested instead of outside, keeps the liner much snugger without having to over-tighten the strap

 snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

Work for me, giving more progressive flex and elimination shin bite. Make sure that you don’t over estimate the power you need. The first time I bought some I bought the Racer/Expert one, and they were way too strong, so I ended up cutting out one of the three bands they had, which worked much better.

Boosters are great, and I reckon a super upgrade. I use them. Buy in the US if you are Iover there as they are a lot cheaper.

That bit of initial flex is super sweet and progressive with a Booster. I love it in moguls (very progressive and cushy shock absorption), and when carving high angle turns (lovely adjustability).

The patent has expired, so the new Atomic Professional dual strap is probably worth looking at, too: it copies and modifies the Booster concept. Expensive, mind.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

I use the expert/racer one, myself. I'm heavy and ski aggressively, though. I haven't cut one of the straps, but like that i have to option to do so (haven't needed to).

Excuse me, Tecnica fit me perfectly NehNeh Still on years old Diablos now Laughing Only thing I have been pulling so hard on the booster straps the metal eye thing that it loops through snapped. Been meaning to fix it properly for 2 years but the cable tie seems fine, maybe this season. Laughing

Not all straps are equal, and even though my new Supra Boas did have a large strap with an 'elastic' section I swopped it out for Boosters that were on two pairs of previous boots. Not only does the ratchet mean you can really crank up the strap as required (and feel dialed in) but it can also be positioned in front of or behind the cuff . . .works brilliantly in conjunction with the Boa system in that once my buckles are in place I can make micro adjustments easily and over the course of the day without messing with the buckles . .
