Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Cluses - Flaine bus

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Both the Flaine tourist info website and the text of the Altibus (the supposed operator of the Cluses - Flaine public bus) websites say there is a bus, but there is not an option on the Altibus website booking drop down menu, and no timetable for this route. No response after a week messaging Altibus and the Tourist Info in Flaine. So Im assuming from all this lack of info / response that this route used to exist and now doesnt and the websites just havent been updated? Or is there a "secret" source of up to date info on this bus route? Im trying to figure possibility of getting between Cham and Flaine. Can get a train to Cluses, which is only 20km or so from Flaine. Travelling solo, so I expect taxi will be real expensive if thats the only option - any inside info much appreciated!

I suspect the bus only runs in the winter and summer tourist seasons, and they haven't yet published the one for next winter. From my experience of other French public transport websites the new timetable will probably only go online a week or so in advance - but is unlikely to have changed materially since last year should anyone have saved an old version.

Your other option is a shared transfer from Go Massif who have been well reviewed here, though that will be more expensive than train/bus.

@bitoffluff, I had a look at the Flaine website a couple of days ago when there was some discussion in another thread.

I'm not sure Altibus is the operator of the bus service, the local operator looks to be Arvi Mobilité.

Thanks both. Winter timetables for other Altibus routes already up, so suspect as rjs says its only run by Arvi. Checked out Arvi website - looks like its a locals bus to get them to college judging by times / stops, and just weekdays. Emailed GoMassif in case they are able to pick me up on way past on a weekend. Otherwise it does look like its not possible except with expensive, Rome2Rio estimates £60!, for the 18 miles :-0

@bitoffluff, if you look like a fairly friendly skier you could probably hitch a lift.

@bitoffluff, I did the taxi from Cluses train station to Flaine back in 2022. It was €70 for just me one way. I can share a taxi number that I used if that would help.

Finally got to the bottom of this - Arvi not posted a timetable, but booking engine now working and there are no buses between Cluses and Flaine on Saturdays or Sunday (only Mon-Fri) through the winter.

GoMassif werent helpful - although the must go through Cluses on their weekend transfers, they have said they would not pick up there. So short of expensive taxi (OK only if there is a group), or taking a transfer from Cham to Geneva airport, then Geneva airport to Flaine, it isnt possible at the weekend to go straight between even though you can get within 18 miles of destination ;-( Oh well, thats Flaine lost my custom for a week in one of their quieter periods

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

The latest timetable is only for the vacances scolaire that just passed, i.e. until Oct. 31. I think they will upload a new timetable soon, so I would just keep checking this site: https://www.arvi-mobilite.fr/les-carroz-flaine-express/

I am nearly 100% certain that there were buses on Sat/Sun. last year. Would be totally bizarre if they didn't have any, tho...

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

From my recollection from last year, when I used the bus once, lovely, comfortable bus, ran about 5 times a day weekdays and more at weekends. As above, keep a lookout for the winter schedule.
