Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

New Year In Baquiera - tips!

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello there.

I've never skiied in the Pyrénées before, but have heard great things and I'm intrigued. I'm coming to Baquiera for 5 days this year over New Year with my husband and 4 kids (ages 20, 28, 25 and 13).

We're staying in an apartment in Tanau (which I've since read might be a mistake.. but no matter, we will have a car and I'm happy to drive and abstain from drinking).

I have lots of questions really, but the main one is - where should we go for New Year's Eve? Should we book a restaurant in Baguergue, Arties, Vielha? Anyone know if anything will be happening to welcome in the New Year? And where would be good to eat etc that night, with older teens who are up for a bit of a party.

And does anyone know about the torchlit descent and whether we might be able to join that?

Also any general recommendations of places to eat in the evenings would be really helpful.

Thanks so much in advance for any tips.

Definitely book restaurants well in advance. I've skied in the resort many times but never actually stayed in Baqueira and never been over New Year. Have mostly stayed in Arties or Salardu.
The restaurants in Arties are mostly fantastic. I would particularly reccomend L'entrecote genial if you like steak. Otherwise pizzaria la Oca, Thalay lounge or Pinotage are great. Otherwise Eth Bot in Salardu.
In the resort the Tanau Sabor does excellent food and the Cinqo Jotas on the mountain is a must do for their Iberico pork.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Good tapas.

Book early.

Old town Vielha, down in the valley, is good.
