Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Which airport for Montgenevre?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
We have accommodation booked in Montgenevre for Feb half term 2025. We had booked Ryanair flights to Turin, however they emailed yesterday advising that they have completely changed the flight times which don’t suit us Eh oh! Obviously Turin is closest to Montgenevre, but Saturday flights from the UK (Manchester ideally) are very limited.

Other options would be to fly to Grenoble, Chambery or Geneva. All with longer transfers, but better flight times. I’ve read horror stories about Grenoble and Chambery airports. Geneva flights are more expensive though. One of our party gets v travel sick so the transfers are a concern too!

Also considered the Eurostar/ TGV, but have read that no trains can get to nearby Oulx this season due to a landslide.

Any advice re. travel/airports/transfers to Mongenevre would be appreciated! Thanks!

Are Ryanair letting you cancel with a full refund??

If not, I'd probably try and make the Turin ones work! Confused

I bet anything else will be £££ by now Shocked

What are you currently doing for transfers?

Are Milan ones a possibility which is not too far away and motorway for the most part thus less problem with travel sickness?

Is it 15-22 Feb?

Early starts the issue? At least it gets you into resort in good time, get skis sorted, (the energetic might want an hour or two on the slopes!), get an early night and everything will seem better Sunday morning! Cool

I notice the return flight on 22nd is completely sold out! Shocked

Think very carefully before cancelling!

Then you can post your own questions or snow reports...

Grenoble are now almost £600pp return

Lyon with Easyjet are £450+ and similar early start

Geneva with Easyjet are £500+ but midday departure, helluva long transfer to Montgenevre! Shocked

Jet2 have Chambery for £500 upward with pm departures

Haven't tried any of the above with the numbers in your party though, as I don't know how many there are.

Thanks for the responses so far!

Yes we’re going 15-22 Feb. We have private transfers booked so will have to try and change these if changing our flights.

Ryanair are offering a full refund.

We may better sticking with the Ryanair. Just wanting to consider all options!

Once HT flight costs got out of control for skiing in that exact neck of the woods, we used Marseille Airport lots. Cheap as chips flights by comparison, the drive isn't bad at all, with no vulnerability to blizzards causing a detour.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Turin is by far the most convenient. About 1 hour 20 mins by private transfer. If you arrive into resort early, your 6 day lift pass includes a half day on the day before your first day i.e. its valid from 1 pm on the Saturday. So you can get your ski hire sorted and a few hours on the slopes unless you're beginners.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Are the transfers with a company based in Montgenevre? Can they adjust to the new flight times without penalty?

Out of interest, what was the original Ryanair MAN departure time? I have Ryanair flights to Venice booked for January, so interesting to know how they can mess you up like this with unnecessary schedule changes! rolling eyes

The cynic in me thinks they did it deliberately, so some would cancel and they could resell the seats for £££! rolling eyes In March it reverts to an afternoon flight.

Presumably the Ryanair refund will be for the price you paid, which will be a lot less than you could buy replacements to another destination, plus the increased cost of transfers from a more distant airport.

I fear you will need to stick with what you have and set the alarm clocks for the wee small hours! Confused

Sadly no-one flies MAN-MRS direct on Saturdays in winter! Sad

The 3.5hr transfers would be pricey too. Would work Self-drive maybe?!
