Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

La Napoleon Montgenevre

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi Guys,
Anyone stay here or close by in Montgenevre??? I'd love to hear any reviews, 3 families all first timers heading in January 2025. Are we central with our accommodation??

I've booked ski school with ESF private lessons for 4 days (hoping this is enough). Ski school have told us to hold off on ski passes until we get there, as some might stick with the beginner area, am assuming that's good advice???

I now need to organise equipment rental, I've been recommended Intersport or Ski Service, anyone have a preference or have a better spot???

Also, we'll arrive very early on the Saturday. Any recommendations for keeping the kids entertained, we won't start ski school until the Sunday.

Sorry for all the questions, if any of you even answer one of the above I'd be delighted Eh oh! Eh oh!

Thanks guys xx

@Muggle101, do an advanced search on SH, it was positively mentioned several times.
Meanwhile, see this

It is highly recommended by @snowymum and I personally found her recommendations precise and good to follow.

@drporat, Thank you! Blush snowHead

@Muggle101,

Le Napoleon is ideally situated in the centre of the village opposite the foot of the beginner slopes. I'm afraid I'm not up to date on ski hire shops there as we own our own kit.

You could take the kids on the Monty Express rollercoaster - accessed in the chalvet area. There is also the Durancia pool.

In future years you would have free skiing on arrival afternoon if you had purchased the six day pass. Obviously this isn't practical for complete beginners.

Thanks so much for the replies Very Happy Very Happy

@snowymum the Monty Express looks brilliant, thank you Very Happy Any areas to do maybe some tobogganing if we could hire some??? I suppose we'll get our bearings quick enough & the fact we're central & close to the beginner area is great to know.

We hired with Skimium Altiski last year and they were good. They're probably a 10 minute walk from where you're staying but you'll have loads of time on the Saturday. And the free resort bus goes from outside their door as well so you could use that to bring your gear back.
I would have used ESI Apeak for lessons ahead of ESF. Used them for our kids for 2 years and kids loved them and progressed well. Never had more than 5 kids in their groups. I'm sure ESF will be just as good but group sizes likely to be bigger.
There's a small hill practically opposite Napoleon that is used for sledging. You can hire sledges from multiple places in the resort and the kids will knock an hour or two out of them on arrival day.
Good luck

@adriangrogan thanks for the reply... Love the idea of hiring the sledge's for them the first afternoon Eh oh! I did hear that groups can be big with ski school, so as we have no idea what to expect, we've gone with private lessons, there'll be 16 of us, 10 kids, they've said 3 instructors between us... Hopefully we'll get on okay, I'd say it'll be an experience for sure, this forum is great though & have trawled through many a post Eh oh!
