Are any Snowheads going to this? I have just checked the Northern Snow Show website and they say that all tickets have been sold, also no tickets available via SCGB web pages.
This seems odd I went to a SCGB talk last week and there were only 12 people in attendance. They also seem to have stolen the slot usually occupied by the Snowheads Oktobertest.
Anyone know more about it?

Yeah I looked this weekend. I assume sold out actually means it and not just they haven't started punting out free tickets. Dangerous game if the tickets were free anyway given no show ratio. If they intend to be all "tickets only" nazi about it then those who were unaware will be pissed off. Plus AIUI they've still got a lift down and reduced capacity. Can't believe the retailers want to deter casual shoppers first real weekend of the winter buying season?
Dog's breakfast on comms as usual for these things.

They may say that on Facebook but their website says the opposite, you cant book a slope pass from Chill Factore (that weekend is blanked out in the bookings system) and they say they have sold out of tickets!

Yeah their website really screams don't bother coming this weekend and some unspecific crap about reserving parking (I thought parking was free at CF anyway). Maybe it will be the riproaring success they are portraying that we are missing out on (unusal for a UK ski show that are normally desperate to get punters in the door so exhibitors don't feel screwed over) or maybe they'll have just blocked a weekend of normal trade...who knows?

Parking is Free Wiigman - They have opened up nearby land to increase the number of spaces, but it's for event visitors only so they are asking event ticket holders to register their car in advance and they will be assigned one of a number of car parks.

@StraightTalk, perhaps for clarity as a new poster maybe declare your interest.
And @rjs's point is a fair one. If an event wants to be accessible to as many people as possible have one version of the truth on its own website. Of course if all you're interested in is harvesting email addresses and SM accounts then be as devious/convoluted as you appear to be and expect pushback like this from consumers.
FWIW I registered this weekend and got an Earlybird ticket registration auto email. Nothing about being sold out. So like I said crap comms but hey ski industry and ski shows so business as usual - prepare to be disappointed.

@Dave of the Marmottes, Declaration of interest: I'm in marketing for The Snow Centre and Chill Factore.
There is nothing devious about Northern Snow and only one version of the truth on our comms. The show was set up, in good faith, as a free to the public event, in response to the fact that the NEC Snow Show had been dropped from the calendar this year. Northern Snow has 40 dedicated snowsports brands and is for snowsports enthusiasts and beginners alike.
It's the first year we are running it, and it's a first time planning and organising it too! We've already taken some learnings from the process to date and we'll no doubt take learnings from the event itself on the 5th and 6th too.
We have a limited capacity at the Chill Factore, unlike the big exhibition center type hangars, but we do have real snow. We wanted to make it accessible to as many people in the north of England and Scotland, so we needed to get the word out as soon as possible. Therefore we launched a pre-registration system before we had the ticketing process all set up and ready to roll out. This was a data capture exercise indeed, but not a devious one. Purely so we can let those, interested enough to register with us, know when tickets had been released, lessons were available, etc...
I don't think we deviate from that message on the website. If we have missed updating one of our comms and have sent out an old one in error, I'd be keen to get it sorted - so, we'll have a look into it. As I mentioned, we're learning as we go, so apologies if that has happened.
We're part of the industry - two indoor real snow slopes, one in the south and one in the north of England. We just wanted to give Snowsports fans in the north access to a show more locally than London. One where visitors to the event can get on real snow and test out the latest equipment on the slopes. No ulterior motives.
Is Northern Snow going to be as big, in terms of visitor numbers, as the London Snow Show? No... we don't have that sort of space. Is it going to have as many brands? No... but I'd argue we have just as many actual snowsports brands (no pet food delivery companies for example). Is it going to be a very different experience for visitors and exhibitors? Yes, absolutely! And the brands involved have been on that journey with us from the start, so they know it's about quality over quantity, and they're up for it.
We are now sold out of the Free event tickets for both days, if anyone missed out on tickets this year, I'm afraid that is disappointing for you - we had a finite number we could release. There is always next year, and if you are on the database, you'll be among the first to be notified when they are released. We're preparing for a great weekend, if you do have a ticket - see you there! Thanks for reading.

@StraightTalk, Thanks. That's clearer than the message on the website where it really isn't clear what a booked ticket actually means - given they are free.
Are you having bouncers at the door to the Mall or to the carpark? Will regular shoppers be turned away?
Does a booked ticket include slopetime or is that something different which is sold out anyway due to your halved lift capacity? Also confusing message about getting free slope tickets from the brands demoing equipment- sounds like a lottery.
In all honesty I think you'd have been better making it a modestly paid for event, all inclusive of slope time rather than the confusing picture presented.
Sorry all this is just a reaction as a consumer who remembered about it. Really it's a shame you don't seem to be hosting sH Oktobertest this year.

@Dave of the Marmottes, It's all ticketed, only those with tickets will get into the free event. All the retailers are fully informed and on-board with this as they will see more footfall than a normal October weekend. Regular shoppers to external businesses - like Evans or Play Factore will still be able to access them.
A Free Northern Snow event entry ticket will not get you on the snow. Reduced price Lift Passes are available to pre-book for event ticket holders and there will be opportunity to book them on the day too, once you are at the event. Same with Lessons, Same with Snow Park. We have only released some of these tickets for pre-booking, retaining a large number for on-the-day bookings and equipment testing.
Re your suggestion - a paid event ticket with access to the snow was absolutely one of the models we looked at. We went for Free access to the event because it is the first time out of the box for the show, for the brand and for us in terms of arranging and delivering the event. We needed to drive awareness and gauge interest... it proved extremely popular, extremely quickly! Hindsight is a wonderful thing, isn't it.

@StraightTalk, Let's hope you get shows from most of your tickets. Don't know what the no show rate was for the Bham shows in recent years but must have been very high given free tickets given away like confetti.

Not being a social media user, this forum was the first I'd heard of this. Shame to see no tickets left, as (being Brum show veterans in recent years) Mrs MA and I would've attended. About 70 miles nearer than Brum for us.
I'm assuming the event capacity must be quite small Would be interested to find out how many tickets were available each day.

It’s a risk. The hope is that the pull of the snow and chance to test ski and snowboard equipment is enough to keep redemption high.

@mountainaddict, I missed out as well, waited too long before finalising my plans, never had a problem with on the day registration at the NEC, London or the Oktobertest. It is a shame people who have free tickets and don't use them may contribute to its downfall and our loss.

Fuc* me, the level of negativity and self-entitlement in comments posted on this thread is quite staggering.
It's been organised for some time and well publicised on many traditional and social media channels. Hence why it's sold out.
I would suggest to the people on here moaning that they're missing out to broaden their ski related reading and listening.

Good luck to them; combining retail and actual indoor snow may well work.
However the marketing does seem a bit ropey:
"hot of[sic] the press"?
And then there are two consecutive social media posts! The first says they've "sold out" of tickets we understand are actually free!
The next claims ... there's[sic] still tickets available!!
[Some irony has been used in this post.]

One can be very into skiing, but not want listen to/read about it all the time so I would cut some slack to those who don't want to broaden their ski related reading and listening. I would hope a show like this appealed to "the mainstream".
I think it's less negativity and self-entitlement and more disappointment at missing out on the initial tickets and a lack of clarity on options (which social media hinting at options that don't exist).
I didn't know about it, found out about if form here and was disappointed it was sold out. I signed up so should it happen again, I would be informed and got an e-mail implying I could get tickets but that e-mail was obviously an old automated response not updated from before the tickets went "on sale".
I hope it is a success.

Yeah most people don't even bother thinking about skiing until Sept/Oct and we're probably spammed in our email by so many things that even if directly mailed we wouldn't really open it. It's hardly been publicised on here and I only came across it because I was checking the Oktobertest thread from last year to see if there were any chance of that happening. guess that looks unlikely.
So for sHs who've been Oktobertest regulars over the year this stealing the space is already starting with a bit of a handicap. And they absolutely should not be sending out earlybird standard holding emails this close to the event if they've already "sold out".
I think because it's free they have a material level of no show risk. But presumably because they've basically said "tough poo-poo if you've only just found out about this" they won't have the punters to fill those vacancies.
I only wanted to test some skis. Guess that won't happen this year.

Hi all,
We've been through our entry ticket bookings with a fine tooth comb and identified a few guests that had double booked in error. After contacting them to make sure they were in fact booked in error, we have released those tickets into the wild...
It's only a handful of tickets but if you head to Northernsnowshow.com you will be able to book up to 2 each. Please only book what you need.
We'll be going onto social media with them in the next few hours, but I read how some of this group were disappointed not to have managed to get tickets - so thought I'd give yo a head start. Thanks!

I have tickets booked for this, with one spare if anyone fancies popping along (ciaraj doesn’t want to come and infact states she never agreed to join me!). I have no idea what to expect, never been to an event thing before. I intend to act as if I’m at octobertest without a lift pass included - would that be near the mark?

@kittya, I went this morning it was Ok. Lots of availability, the slope was empty, but no one was testing the skis at 10.30. There were more skiers at last years Oktobertest. Stalls were ok had a chat to some nice folks, just about worth my 15 minute journey to get there

Went yesterday. Arrived around 09:20, straight in, one of the first 25. On the slope 11:00-12:00. It was quiet, the slope was quieter than Snozone Castleford on a Sunday morning. Good selection of stands, didn’t have to queue for anything. Parked in main carpark out front. Feels like a lot of people who had tickets may have stayed away due to the nice weather. Travelled 1h 20m and was there until around 15:00. Didn’t have the same atmosphere as the National Snow Show at the NEC but it was still enjoyable for a day out, some nice giveaways on the stands, and to use the great facilities at CF-e.
