Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Have some old but unused Head S8 boots from 2004/05. They are like new so loathe to chuck them.
Can anyone tell me what the old Head flex ratings compared to the standard flex you see nowadays are?
Boots are marked 7.6 for flex. Is that simply 76 by todays charts so soft to medium? They feel pretty stiff to me and I think were marketed for advanced skiers back in the day. Bit confused.
The booklet and looking online isn't helping much.
Thanks

Hi
@Klammertime
, you may as well chuck them... at 20 years they have had it.
They reckon that 5 years is all you should expect from the shells as the plastic does not work anymore.
Or is that just a rumour?
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Hmmm, I've had boots last much longer than that ... my current ones were bought in (I think) 2018 and I see no reason* to replace them yet.
*Other than that the new version is nicer.

1. There has been considerable debate here and elsewhere about flex ratings from different manufacturers, with the consensus seeming to move towards "there's no agreed standard, so don't assume that a 120 in boot X is the same as a 120 in boot Z".
2. No idea what the 7.6 may have been intended to mean, but there's only a tiny chance that they will actually behave as they did when new. Plastics degrade over time, sometimes becoming softer with age, sometime more brittle, and possibly both at the same time.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@Chaletbeauroc
, now you mention it, 2004 was a long time ago
I don't think I'd be trying to resurrect them, myself.
