Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

La Plagne A Mountain for our future, one resorts view on the future of the resort and its plans.

Today, our society is facing profound and unprecedented upheaval due to global warming and the collapse of the biodiversity, and the impact this is having on our ecosystems and lifestyles. As the world's leading resort, we have a great responsibility.

We believe that our historic assignment has never been so important and that it has taken on a new meaning in the light of these challenges. We are a multi-site resort of 53 000 beds and we welcome some 575 000 visitors per year to our exceptional natural environment.
Enlightened management of this environment and sustainable development to structure visitor flows, as well as raising awareness of its fragility on a large scale are the keys to a desirable future for La Plagne.

@boredsurfin, thanks for posting - like you say, a lot of different sections to read.

Good that La Plagne are thinking how best they can make skiing in their resort greener than it has previously been. For British visitors, of which there are large numbers, making it easier to travel by train rather than by air would be a worthwhile investment based on what the resort said in that link. Returning to the old Eurostar ski train service, for example, rather than the current arrangements which are less convenient and much more expensive. Prior to Brexit I was using the Eurostar more and more, now I fly or drive (at least 8 times per season) because it’s a much better option, though I know it’s not great for my carbon footprint.

@rob@rar, Of course the real step forward would be a direct rail link from B st M or even Moutier to Geneva Airport, but I don't think that will be anytime soon mainly due to the French transport unions protecting all those Coach and Taxi transfer operators.

One section of the La Plagne plan is having a direct link from Aime rail station up to La Plagne, like BstM to Les Arcs, but doesn't that make a huge loss every year?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@boredsurfin, if the aim is to reduce environmental impact, I wouldn't have thought making access via plane easier would be a logical priority. Improving the train service as an alternative to flying would, however, meet that aim.

Something I've wondered about is how close the line is to capacity on the stretch beyond Albertville. For e.g. there are limited passing points and platforms at Bourg. It would be interesting to know how many more trains could realistically be run.

@rob@rar, Totally agree, the rail options to French resorts are far worse than a few years ago. Not only is the direct ski train gone it seems the SNCF TGVs from Lille to the alps have been cut back (I just can't find them when trying to book). I have started taking the train to Austria instead because it actually seems easier to book the tickets for Feb half term compared to the 5am lottery for the SNCF trains.
