Poster: A snowHead

Looking at booking KLM from Leeds Bradford via Amsterdam to Venice the BB. There website says:

You can bring your (water) ski or snowboard equipment instead of an item of checked luggage without having to make a reservation. It can be up to 300 cm (length + width + height) and up to 23 kg in Economy Class and Premium Comfort Class, or 32 kg in Business Class.
A set of ski equipment may only consist of a pair of skis, a pair of ski poles, and a pair of ski boots. A set of snowboard equipment may only consist of a board and a pair of snowboard boots. |
Do they really stick to this or can I just pack all my stuff in the Dakine ski bag i have?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

@stevew, Can’t help with the specific question but KLM uses the Embraer190 from Leeds, as its only 4 seats across luggage space can be limited. Also as Schiphol is massive watch the turnaround time between flights, bags often don’t make it if it’s less than an hour.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Flew Geneva to Newcastle via Amsterdam at Easter this year with a Dakine coffin bag containing my OHs snowboard & boots, my skis & poles, two helmets, salopettes etc. No questions asked and no issues

KLM have been diabolical with us, 2 years ago they lost our bag on the way home, then last year they lost it on the way there and the way home. We had a good transfer time in schipol as well (just under 4 hours).

You'll need to Register first of course.

I cannot find a nice thing to say about KLM other than the cheese sandwich on the plane is nice. They lose luggage more than they should and Schiphol is a bloody awful airport.

Only used them once with skis. I had a tight connection (coming from Leeds) to Innsbruck, and because they had to de-ice the plane (which was apparently a surprise to them in March), and parking the Leeds plane somewhere in Belgium, I got into the terminal with about 20 minutes to get through passports and make my flight. Some judicious pushing in and a lot of running and I got to the gate before it closed. But was told my bags had been offloaded (I suspect they were never onloaded due to our late arrival). So despite being at the gate before it closed I then spent the whole day going to Innsbruck via Dusseldorf, with the icing on the cake being my skis never left Amsterdam, so arrived about 48hrs after me.
So - I’d never fly with skis via Schipol, certainly not with a remotely tight connection.

Well - I fly a lot with KLM, and three times my skis don’t join my connecting flight - Anything less that two hours for transfer in Amsterdam = Your skis will arrive later than you.
