Poster: A snowHead

I'm staying in Montgenevre in January for a week, the best flight for me is Bournemouth to Geneva. Has anyone driven from Geneva in that direction? Should I do that or drive to London and go to Turin, from where I can get an affordable transfer?
Thanks

@RedW28, where do you live? Without that we can't tell whether driving to one of the London airports would be worse than driving Geneva to Montgenevre. But the latter option will be a very long drive.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I have driven that route several times. (however not usually in one go)
Would probably stop off in Annecy for a few days whilst I examined the weather. Then have some skiing around the resorts by Albertville (Espace Killy mostly). Drive down to Serre Chevalier and so some skiing there. Eventually ending up in Montgenevre.
According to route finder it is about a 3 hour drive with no traffic jams. I never experienced any particular driving issues on the roads suggested by AA route finder.
Most of my problems (if any) were getting out of Geneva, which was often log jammed with traffic.
A transfer from Turin would be quicker probably, and cheaper.

Turin is the best airport for Montgenevre by a long way as it is nearer and you would not need to go through the Frejus tunnel.

Thanks for the replies. Here is some more info.
I live in Bournemouth and the flight to Geneva is at 9:45am so really easy.
The flight from Gatwick is at 8:00 so I would need to leave home by 4am as it’s at least 2 hours away.
The flight from Bristol is at 9:00. It’s also about 2 hours away so leaving home by 5am.
At the other end, the transfer from Turin is £450 and takes around 1 hour 40 minutes.
Car hire in Geneva is around £400 (not sure if that invludes snow tyres but probably not) and Frejus is something like €60 return.
So price wise the only real difference is that the flight is slightly more expensive from Bournemouth but is so more convenient so the question really is whether we want the inconvenience at this end or the other. If it was a summer holiday I wouldn’t think twice, I’d hire a car in Geneva but in snow season it feels different.

What about hiring a car from Turin? Car hire is much cheaper in Italy.

Personally I enjoy driving in the Alps a lot more than driving in the UK, and I'd have no issues making a long journey like that from Geneva. Plus if you hire in Switzerland you'll get winter tyres, by law.
Add in Bournemouth airport, which is considered one of the best in the country, and for me it seems an obvious choice.

The car hire in Turin is cheaper but not by enough to rule out the transfer. Cost isn't really a big enough factor, all options are close enough that picking the most convenient, yet sensible, option is the main issue.

We have used Sauze Taxi for the last 2 years for private transfers Turin to Montgenevre. Price both years was EUR380 in total. Transfer time was 1 hour 20 (no weather or traffic issues either year on both legs). I'd also much prefer flying in and out of Turin than Geneva (says he who has booked to fly to Geneva this year!).

I think you can take a train to get from Turin airport to Oulx and then the Resalp bus or a taxi from thereto the resort.

We went to Serre Chevalier from Turin last season and used https://www.snow.cab/locations/montgenevre for our transfer. They were excellent and the shared transfer worked out good value. They stop at Montgenevre and Serre Chev. Worth researching if you do opt for Turin rather than GVA

I’ve also used Sauze taxi (twice) and can recommend. Similar price to above, and that was for a family of 5.
