Hi,
Pre Covid we used to love the likes of Silver Ski and Mountain Sun for affordable catered ski holidays in France/Italy. Most of these guys went bust over Covid, so does anyone know any affordable catered chalet companies or even individual catered chalets etc? It would just be for 2 of us and happy with anywhere in France or Dolomites.
Thanks!

@VictoriaSP, skiworld may suit the bill, i have not been with them for nearly 30 years so cannot comment on their present costs, but they were always on the cheaper end of the market when i went with them, and was one of our competitors when i worked for silver ski in the mid to late 90's in meribel.

SkiWorld have been quite pricey the last few times I've priced them up. SkiBeat are OK. Also try looking for independents for better value, Chalets Direct Solution Room has worked for me in the past.

@VictoriaSP, whats
“affordable”? Seems a bit ambiguous/ subjective.
What max per head budget are you thinking and what are you expecting it to include?

Catered chalet options not as prevalent as they were.
Crystal and Skiworld are the big firms which have plenty of choice, early and last minute discounts - and as you'd expect sometimes sketchy customer service.
And there are the smaller firms such as https://www.leski.com/ - bit pricier but more personable.

Yes, "affordable"means nothing. We did a number of lower cost chalets in the past, with the kids. All were enjoyable. But none had, for example, private bathrooms. And some were a bit of a hike (or a bus) to the lifts. You need to prioritize and identify what's important to you. Many people can afford luxury!

They seem to be trying to cover as many seasons as possible in one go.

brexshit and clamping down on employment laws has pretty much killed the anglophone chalet holiday industry.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

It's not just Brexshit and not just France. I've recently been booking accommodation for a 10 day trip to Scotland and Northumberland. Very ordinary places charge over £100 - often a lot more - for a single room. That's more than a thousand quid, just for bed (and breakfast is often extra).
I have now booked accommodation, including a shepherd's hut at a camp site in Barra, Outer Hebrides, for £50 a night - and all except Barra include breakfast. The big difference is not having private bathrooms. For £500 I'm willing to put on a dressing gown and walk along a corridor (or possibly in Barra put on a full set of oilskins and a Sou-wester and walk into the teeth of an Atlantic gale, as the shepherds presumably had to do). But in Barra there is a reportedly good kitchen for campers to use so I can do myself a bacon bap and a cup of tea.

Thanks for the ideas so far!
By affordable I mean ideally less than £1k pp for a flights, transfer, chalet and food package (lift pass on top!).
Ski beat is the best of these so far but still a bit pricy… I’ll look into Chalets Direct Solutions and adding flights / transfer on top.

A good week to go! Flights and transfers are quite expensive. Even with only two of you, it could be cheaper to drive. The cheapest holiday option is likely to be a small apartment. That doesn't mean having to cook all the time. Most French resorts will have a "traiteur" where you can buy ready made tasty things to eat at home. And a steak, a bag of salad, a fresh baguette and a bottle of red from the supermarket (which will be vastly better than anthing you'll get in a cheap chalet) is not a lot of work.
The Dolomites are likely to be substantially more expensive. The less well known French resorts will be a lot cheaper than the household names, too.

You’ll just about squeeze that in with Sunweb as their price includes a lift pass (but check exactly which) which you don’t include in yr £1k per pax.

Any reason you can't go to a hotel? Dolomites on that date HB starts from £824 (airport dependant obvs)

The good thing about owning a dog is that you can have a dump anywhere when you have a pocket full of poo bags.

Yes, but there are a few other considerations. There is a book called "How to Shit in the Woods". Any fule can cope in a wood. But on an island without even a tree, not so simple. The availability of a plastic bag doesn't entirely solve the problem.

Aim accurately into the plastic bag. Do this while still in the shepherd’s hut.
