Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Flash Floods and Landslides Devastate St. Anton

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Flash floods and landslides have caused massive destruction in and around the Austrian ski resort St. Anton am Arlberg.

Heavy rains coupled with snowmelt triggered giant mud avalanches in the night from Friday to Saturday, August 16-17, that swept away cars, destroyed buildings and infrastructure, flooded houses, and caused the collapse of important access roads. It is the third time in recent history that the resort has been struck by landslides and floods, previously in 1999 and 2005, but this year’s floods have been the worst by all accounts. Sad

Here's a video of two cars being swept away https://x.com/Klimakatastroph/status/1824740173852131431

These scenes (and some of the devastation in France too) look like the sort of thing we see from "poor countries far away". And it's going to get worse. Sad

@Langerzug, true, but it was so newsworthy that I thought it merited it's own thread. It seems that several sHs who don't follow the Arlberg thread by their comments here were unaware of the recent damage.

Not really a problem to the pistes. In fact, this actually is a much wanted widening of the Steissbach/Happy Valley piste Laughing
