I don't think this has been shared anywhere yet and it gives me no pleasure to be the bringer of bad news, but Planks Clothing is currently up for sale, prior to possible liquidation.

That's a shame; they'd become pretty iconic in the British scene with the whole 'Drop Cliffs Not Bombs' stuff and supported a bunch of British skiers.

yup - what caused them to go under ?
seemed like a successful / recognizable brand well associated with l'espace killy.
though losses of 800K on a 1.6 million turn over are massive
they had a coffee shop in tignes for awhile ?

I'd have thought they were doing OK. Not gone crazy on trying to be everything to everyone and stayed pretty core. But that level of losses is shocking, sounds like not big enough to cover their overhead.

Expansion. 'Grew' too quickly by opening stores in resorts everywhere. That cannot be cheap.
It is a difficult market to crack. Covid would have had an impact when you lose the best part of 2-3 seasons of customers.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Maybe stayed a bit too core to the freestyle end of things, a market which pretty much definition is young and especially over the past few years became extra cash-strapped - and also targeted/undercut by the likes of Dope and Montec etc.
I'm sure I listened to a podcast with the founder just a couple of years ago (might have been iainm's actually) where it sounded like they were doing pretty well, and IIRC correctly were also working behind the scenes with/on some other brands - incl. maybe Candide's? Or maybe that was the Faction/Full Stack Supply Co guys...

Shame - they've always been regulars at the UK ski shows, and been keen on sponsoring riders. Seeing they look like they are wrapping up and with the loss of Westbeach looks like the middle is getting more and more squeezed out - to survive you've either got to be on the top floor, or in the basement.

I liked their attitude and bought a few longsleeve t-s of theirs. Nice quality. Nothing at all to buy from their website.

Shame, I liked their gear. In fact I'm pretty much a walking billboard for them when I'm cutting about the mountain!
As for sales, looks like their web shop is empty now, but still a few things knocking around in various online stores.

Ahh real shame, really like their gloves - nice close fit. Most gloves I try feel like I'm wearing those big foam hands!

Got a Drop Cliffs Not Bombs hoodie that's decent enough quality to have lasted me for years, but a lot of their kit is a bit too parkrat for me to get away with

I have seen the kit at ski shows, but my only Planks spending was in the Tignes coffee shop. Nice little place and good coffee. Was disappointed when it closed.

On the main road up to the Grande Motte Funicular in Val Claret
@sugarmoma666. Just past the Hotel Diva/supermarket.
Google Maps streetview image is from three years ago and still shows the Planks sign above the shop/coffee shop door.

It was The Ski Podcast, but it was a different interview - this one with Tony McWilliam, founder of Faction Skis:

Seen a few people on trustpilot that returned gear at the wrong time, now out of pocket and without any product... ouch.
