Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Zell am See for Christmas

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I'm wondering how snow sure is Zell Am See in December. I'm looking to spend Christmas skiing there with family. We would typically go to higher resorts such as Tignes or Val T for Christmas. Conscious Zell Am See is relatively low and average snowfall in December is around 75cm (though snow cannon coverage is 100%). I am wondering if anyone has any actual experience they could share?

Been once at Christmas and was unlucky, couldn't even ski the home run to the village. This was about 25 years ago, can't imagine climate change will have helped.

Who knows what's in store this year, I imagine it was ok last Christmas with the early dump everywhere got.

This should give you an idea of the historical snow levels - just cycle back the years.

You've a shared ticket with the Kitzsteinhorn glacier as a back up if early season is warm/dry. Busses run frequently from center of Zell. Everything will be busy mind, but that'll be everywhere that week.

Your ski pass will cover the ski circus as well, we regularly ski Saalbach Hinterglemm before Christmas without any problems .

Zell am See is too small if you're used to Tignes or Val T, even with the back-up of Kitzsteinhorn, which will be rammed if there are any issues with the snow at Zell.

If you want to ski that area of Austria, look at the Ski Circus instead and stay in Saalbach or Hinterglemm (or even in Leogang - at the base of one of the two gondolas rather than in Leogang village). Another option is Viehhofen, which has a gondola directly into the Zell am See area and also a 10 minute bus link to the Ski Circus at Schonleiten, Saalbach. If conditions are good it is possible to ski back to Viehhofen from the Saalbach side along one of the best blue runs (#168) you'll ever ski. Zell am See, Kitzsteinhorn and the entire Ski Circus are on the same lift ticket.

Seems like with the ski circus it should be okay. Think we will risk it. Thanks everyone for your advice! Very Happy
