Venet .. Landeck/Zams Sk iarea
A real locals area ...with fantastic vistas
Down the valley from world famous ski areas St Anton , Ischgl, Serfaus..
Good news from Tyrol. The survival of the Venet ski area near Landeck is no longer threatened. The Pletzer Group has acquired a majority stake of 80 percent in the Venet Bergbahnen. This saved the ski area, which has been plagued by setbacks in recent years.
Pletzer
The Austrian Pletzer Group is no stranger to winter sports. Last year, I spoke to Siegfried Egger, managing director of two Pletzer hotels in Hopfgarten, about their mission. The Pletzer Group is (co-)owner of, among others, the Buchensteinwand in the Pillerseetal, the Hohe Salve in the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental and the Bavarian Sudelfeld. With the acquisition of 80 percent of Venet's shares, the future of the ski resort is guaranteed. The municipalities (Landeck and Zams) and the tourist board will retain 20 percent of the shares.
Technical Issues
Venet is a small ski area near the large Serfaus - Fiss - Ladis, the Paznaun Valley and the Pitztal. In recent years, Venet has often struggled with technical problems. Especially the Venetbahn, the only gondola in the area that takes you up from Zams, was often at a standstill. In addition, the Süd chairlift did not run last winter, which meant that the entire south side of the mountain was no longer accessible to winter sports enthusiasts.
Open for at least 20 years
The Pletzer Gruppe is planning to renovate the Venetbahn, but first they want to investigate the technical condition of this important lift. In addition, they want to renovate the Weinbergbahn, as well as the Rifenalbahn (both chairlifts). It is not known whether there are also plans to reopen the south side of the mountain. A concrete plan will be presented before the summer. Furthermore, the Pletzer Group has given the guarantee that the ski area will be open in 2024/2025 anyway, and that both summer and winter activities will continue for the next 20 years.

Been to Venet twice, for a day's skiing each time, when visiting the Landeck area. Great little ski area, with some nice long runs.
On our last visit (Jan 2022), Mrs MA and I had a fantastic powder day. It felt like we were the only ones there.

We stayed at Landeck last year in January to ski St Anton and Ischgl with our guide. We didn't ski from Zams, just across from it at all. Perhaps we should have tried it. We did, however, do See and Kappl along the valley, with fresh powder as a warm up before Zeb arrived and they were quite enjoyable in the circumstances, though limited. Later we skied back to Kappl from Ischgl (as well as an amazing run down to Samnaun from Ischgl including down a steep canyon, with no tracks the whole way, many days after the last snow.
