Big thanks for already getting this up. It is super helpful. Can it be pinned to the top?
Looking how our kids holidays fall versus the masses... we can do 14th dec week. Should be quiet but will need altitude. And i don't love the short daylight hours.
HT - we have the 15th Feb week. Damn. Basically not France. Late Carnival makes Italy tempting.
The winner though is they break up for Easter in time for 29th march week. That could be the winner.

For the south of NL the government advised holiday week is #9 but it is more likely that many of the schools in the south will go against that advice and have their holiday in week #10 as that is the carnaval week which is celebrated in the south.

Lots of comments in the dolomites thread (https://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?p=5241948#5241948) about mid Jan being very busy this year with Eastern (non EU so maybe not on chart ?) European visitors (including Russians whom I thought were not allowed ?).
Someone mentioned that some of those countries might have a school holiday in Jan ?
Certainly when I was in Kronplatz 14-21 Jan it was busier than I had expected and lots of accents, languages I couldn’t place with school age kids in tow …certainly some Russian.
Bigger sella ronda area (we parked at La Villa twice and armentarola once) seemed a little quieter …
I wonder does anyone have any further info on this ?

There’s mention of the Dolomites being busier than normal this month due to late changes from Germans, with poor conditions in their favoured resorts further north.

The Sella Ronda including our hotel is packed this current week with Italian families with school age kids.
Yet all the school holiday graphics and websites show no Italian school holidays for any region.
Is this a carnival week with schools shut in Italy?

How would January 4-11, 2025 be? It looks like all schools return on the 4th. Also, it’s the period right after Christmas/New Years so will things have calmed down?

@Larzke, wlcome to snowheads. That's often the cheapest week of the season and as ushc can be very quiet - though we've notied that more than a few parents will take offspring on ski trips that week and perhaps pay a small fine, rather than pay the much higher premium for New Year

Hi, based on the table at the top, should I be avoiding Italy for the week 1st to 8th March. If it is Carnaval week will the Italians be on holidays and therefore a greater number in ski resorts? I am looking at Canazei.

I'm looking at the Western Tyrol/Voralberg for the first week of March, 2025. This is Fasching week. Encouragingly enough, I found the following quote, posted by @abricotine in wintersport.nl:

We are looking to head the Sellaronda in 2025. An ideal date to beat the crowds looks like 1st Feb - 8th Feb however that doesn't quite suit the group. Will 8th Feb - 15th Feb be significantly busier? I can see it starts to clash with school holidays..

No worries!
Though Danish families will be in abundance in Canazei/ Val di Fassa quadrant as it looks like it's HT for most of them 8-15 Feb according to the chart at the top of the page.
Danes don't figure in the second chart, presumably numbers are minimal overall, but Canazei seems to be one of their absolute fave spots in the Alps.

It kind of makes sense to me.
This is the number of skiers, so although there may be far fewer skiers than in mid-January I wouldn't be surprised if they're mostly heading to the 10-15% (maybe?) of higher resorts with a decent record of late season snow. Meaning the pressure in those resorts at Easter is going to be higher then than it is in most resorts in mid January despite there being fewer skiers overall.

A late Easter means that a lot of Europeans have already packed their winter gear away, and of course some lower resorts may suffer from lack of snow or even be closed by then. Most will normally try to remain open until Easter weekend in most years, but this year it's likely to be too late for a lot of them.
So yeah, it seems about right to me, not at all surprising. Late March-Early April often has some of the best skiing, with longer days and more sun, yet there seems to be a general reluctance, certainly in the 5 years we've been running our apartments, for people to book for that period.
BUT, if snow conditions are still good, we find that these weeks tend to fill up closer to the time, whereas January usually stays quiet.

This...the chart shows overall numbers and they will be concentrated in the few high altitude resorts that are most likely to still have the best conditions at Easter.
@koru, which resort(s) do you visit at Easter?
