Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Alternatives to Morzine

I regularly go with a group of friends for a long weekend skiing in Morzine. We are looking for somewhere new - ideally a short transfer from Geneva (we have limited flight options). We would like some night life/apres and decent skiing. Any suggestions?

Chamonix? I would have said it’s limited in as much as you have to upload and download but that’s no different to Morzine of late.

Maybe La Clusaz or Grand Bornand? Not sure on the apres ski in those spots though.

Or if you like Morzine why not just stop up in Avoriaz or Chatel for a different base?

Fair point @under a new name, we’ve always got a hire car or private transfer when going to LGB.

Daughter and partner been to Morzine 3 times, then came with us to Les Carroz start of April, but actually we spent the best days in Flaine - which they said they both loved as an alternative to Morzine / Avoriaz.

We’re looking to go to Flaine again next April.

Thanks everyone, we fly from Newcastle so limited options for long weekends. Verbier is a tempting option. Haven't been for a long time. We normally get a private mini bus so transfers are not normally an issue. I wasn't sure about the apres in Flaine - is there much going on?

Don't think there's much going on in Flaine, but stay in Samoëns instead - nice village with a good few restaurants and bars and ski the Grand Massif including Flaine area. Did exactly that for a long weekend this year and it was great.

@pmercer, Le Chable is a cheaper alternative too for Verbier if price comes in to play at all.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

+1 for Grand Massif, if you are going mid season then Les Carroz may be a good bet.

You could drive another 30 mins or so along the same valley and get to Megeve which might be good for a weekend if you want upmarket apres.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Samoëns only disadvantage is no lifts from the village. Which may or not be an issue. There must be some bars in Flaine itself?

@pmercer, Meribel is just over 2 hours from GVA, I've done long weekends a few times, quick access to the 3 vallees, enough apres depending on where you stay and skiing/lift infra/skiing height is streets above Morzine IMHO

Zermatt if feeling flush and prepared for a bigger transfer? - access to Cervinia slopes for lunch too.

Courmayeur is only 1:30 drive but you've a cost of the tunnel.
