Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Broken collar bone in VT. Any lifts I can go on as a non skier?

So, having waited for this trip forever, I slipped on ice before I'd even got on a lift. Trip to Albertville Hospital for op with plates and screws, but heading back to VT now.

Going to be boring sat in the apartment, so can anyone suggest any lifts that I can get to, and maybe have a drink or lunch with my mates on the mountain?

Gutted right now!

I think you can go on most of the gondolas and cable cars as a pedestrian, not Grand Fond as you can't go back down on it and there isn't a restaurant at the top anyway.

You could do top of Peclet, down on Cairn then walk across to the Caron restaurant. Furthest would be down Cairn, up VT32 Caron, up VT33 Cime Caron then down OR2 Orelle-Caron to the restaurant at Plan Bouchet.

The advert on the radio says that you can even get to the Knife and Fork on foot but probably a bit of a walk.

@rjs, I saw someone doing the walk to Knife and Fork in soft snow last week, every step she sunk up to her calves. Dont think it's too bad in harder conditions but otherwise I think snowshoes might be the option...although not sure about doing it with a broken collarbone.

Cime Caron and Plan Bouchet definitely the best options imo, they've even built a tunnel to get from the top of the cable car to the new gondola, so it's virtually all inside now. Peclet is also a straightforward one.

The Moraine gondola isn't viable, beside from not being anything at the top, it doesn't do download

Yeah if there is a prospect of any sun go on a mission to sit on the deck at Orelle - Cairn-Caron-Cime Caron-whatever the bubble down to Orelle is called. Guess you could even take a trip down to Orelle village. Caveat - the bubble out of Orelle was suspende in high winds one day last week.

From Peclet you can also walk to Chalet de La Marine then continue down to VT. Knife and fork is the wrong side of the Cosmojet sledge run and a piste for the walking path. You would probably need snow shoes for the walk from Peclet.

You can use Cascades as a pedestrian, then walk downhill to Chalet de la Marine, where if the sun is out it is rather pleasant to sit and enjoy a glass or two of La Rousse, and then walk down, past the knife and fork (another beer maybe..) to get back down

 snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

Or Take the VT31 Cairn Bubble lift down from the fire station, then walk over the bridge that takes you over the piste.
If you have a "Snowhead Card" you may well get 15% off.
Or they could be Closed, I think you could ring them "Chalet de Caron Restaurant"

Sorry about the bad luck Sad

Yes sorry the walk to Marine is from Cascades chairlift. A lot further down from Peclet. It’s got a much bigger terrace than the restaurant at the top of Peclet (and a much nicer toilet). Hefty prices though.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

 You know it makes sense.

Can't you strap it up and ski a bit? People have finished the Tour de France with broken collar bones.

Really sorry to hear about this though, rotten luck. Hope Albertville treated you well.

@davidof, they probably don't need insurance for further injury

So a little trip up Peclet for lunch and a change of scene. Pretty murky, but Sun was trying it's best.

Holding out for slightly better viz tomorrow for Cime Caron.

@davidof, I was tempted, but really concerned about further damage. It's been plated and screwed, but don't feel like i have anywhere near enough range of motion to properly correct balance in a hurry, if i needed to.
