Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

A snowHead
In the past I would have just jumped on the bus/train/plane to the cheapest mountain with snow.... now we have kids.
We are looking at a ski week in mid Jan with the kids (5 & 7). Highly likely to be travelling around South Germany and Austria.
Looking for suggestions that would satisfy the following:
-- Good train connections from Germany and within Austria
-- High probability of snow
-- Good range of affordable accomodation
-- Ski school
-- Ski hire
-- Best value & flexible ski pass
Thinking of Hochfuegen or Solden.

Mid January is low season, personally I would wait and see what the snow is like and book late.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Zell am See? Working town all year so well connected with the rail network. Saalbach etc around the corner for variety and top notch apres, Kaprun Glacier if conditions are poo, other close resorts like Maria Alm / Dorfgastien if the snows good and you fancy some quieter slopes . . .super ski pass covers all areas and more for a modest price hike

I took the train from Munich to Westendorf for SkiWelt. Other stations available I believe.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Back into the research.
Given we will be with young kids, we don't need a huge ski area to explore. However easier walk/bus to the slopes is important.
I have narrowed down the list based on train connections: Kitzbuhel or Wilder Kaiser-Brixental or Hochfügen.
Any suggestions on finding accommodation? Are packages worth the effort?
