Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Resort recommendations school holidays 2025

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello, looking for recommendations for a resort that meets the criteria below:

Either Easter 2025 (so from 5th April as husband is a teacher)
- snow sure (to the extent anywhere is…)
- reasonable prices
- decent blues and reds
- not stupidly expensive
- ok for an intermediate boarder as well as intermediate skiers.

OR half term (mid Feb) that has the same criteria as the above but isn’t going to be stupidly busy. We would drive but don’t particularly want to be going up loads of hairpin bends in the snow…. Think that we have already missed out on the best flight deals for this time of year Sad

We’ve been to Isola 2000 for the past two Easter holidays (flying into Nice) which we have loved but we’re a bit concerned that going a week later might just be too slushy. The slopes have been so quiet here that we have been a bit spoilt.

Not bothered about après ski as our children are 11 & 12.

Looking forward to hearing from the experts either suggestions.

TIA

When you say “drive” do you mean drive from the UK?
We will be going to Kronplatz as usual at UK half term.
I can recommend www.mareo.it but the tourist information office will email you a list of accommodation on request.
Self catering works for us with much of the meals taken in restaurants at reasonable cost.

Yes, drive from the UK if half term or get flights at Easter.

We also prefer self-catering.

Thanks for suggesting Kronplatz. Will take a look. Eh oh!

Easy drive to The Maurienne Valley from Calais as all motorway to the last 20-30kms (non of which is particularly windy hair pins) so take a look at Val Cenis, Valmeinier, Valloire, all of which are family friendly and cost effective resorts with lots of accom options and do not get stupidly busy even during Feb half term…for Easter Val Cenis is a good shout as the slopes are north facing so hold the snow pretty well and again will be quiet.

All have great blues and reds to keep skiers and boarders alike occupied and with Val Cenis ski pass you get the option of skiing a day at the other valley resorts of Aussois, La Norma, Valfrejus and Bonneval sur Arc.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I’d recommend Montgenevre, Les Arcs or Flaine for Easter with those requirements.

I would definitely go at Easter rather than half term not just for the cheaper prices but the quieter slopes.

If you want to go at half term I’d still recommend Montgenevre but not the other two as they will probably be busier.

I would consider driving at Easter. There are TOs like Peak Retreats who specialise in self drive with eurotunnel flexiplus (or ferry at a cheaper rate) included.

Montgenevre is motorway almost all the way if you take the Frejus tunnel and you can get a discount in that if you buy it in advance with the lift pass.

We’ve just done a self-drive to Oz En Oisans (Alpe D’ Huez) for Easter and it was a great choice - not a massive resort, chilled out, easy to get to and the gondola links are really good. Also, a really good selection of blues and reds across the domain. Suits boarders and skiers very well.

We went 22-29th March and although it was warm at times, it dumped a fair few times and slopes were in good shape mostly, aside from the usual late afternoon slush on warm days.

If you’re driving then it’s an easy run; £85 in tolls each way, we did it all in the autoroutes with stopovers in Troyes (going) and Reims (coming back) but doable in one go with two drivers. Lots of shop opportunities at Grenoble for a big shop.

Doesn't have to be an issue. If Feb HT just go to a lowish satellite village like Les Coches or Oz as mentioned above. Fewer hairpins, less likely to meet snow. At Easter changes of encountering snow very slim. Also at Easter less concern about other winterisation.

And if self catering can take stuff with you and do a supermarket stop in the valley.

Oh and you can ski both Saturdays.
