 Poster: A snowHead

Heading off from Folkestone tomorrow am for the Dolomites first then France in the car for an extended Easter trip, but thinking that rather than a straight 14 hour trip to MdC it might be nice to stop off somewhere for a ski day en route on Sunday.
Any suggestions? What's the most northerly area that is currently skiable? Not bothered if it adds a bit of distance to the trip, but want to maximise the time on snow. Any suggestions?

Wow, @Pending, thats a challange this year.
1) Stop off at the indoor snowdome near Maastrecht, its about 500m long.

Stubai is fab, but still 12 hours from Calais. Anything in the 7/8/9 hour range, and a bit further West?

Hmm. If you changed to the Aosta Valley you could stop in Chamonix......For Madonna, I'd just head straight there rather than faff around.

Most French or Swiss resorts all around 10 hours, give a take - Jura mountains are a bit closer but they have very short season...

Assuming you're driving the fastest (Google) route, I'd push on to Andermatt and have a day there.

The Arlberg area is not such a daft idea. If you go via Bregenz (Namur/Luxembourg/Karlsruhe/Ulm) you could make that in a longish day with an early start and clear roads. Not only the Arlberg itself, but Montafon and the smaller places in the Bregenzerwald like Damüls. Moving on you could then go via the Reschen Pass to Meran so avoiding the Brenner.

Thanks all. We decided to head for Garmisch, but when we got there in time for an afternoon ski the visibility was poor so we just kept going. One to plan for another time perhaps
