Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

That's it, the time has come to renew your Magic Pass!
We have more updates planned for these upcoming seasons than ever before!
16 new destinations have joined the family.
The hard part starts now: skiing and after skiing in the Haut-Valais (Lauchernalp Lötschental, Moosalp, Eischoll, Gspon, Visperterminen, Unterbäch); discovering the largest night skiing area of Romanesque Switzerland in the Vaudois Jura (Saint-Croix - Les Rasses); enjoying one of the best Emmentals on the tracks of Marbachegg (Lucerne), or hike and discover the most beautiful places of the Bernese Oberland (Bumbach, Gantrisch Gurnigel, Gurnigelbad, Kiental, Egg Ottenleue, Riffenmatt, Rüschegg - Eywald, Selital).
Whatever you choose, we look forward to having you skiing, hiking, pedaling and enjoying the mountains these coming seasons!
⭐️ This is Magic! ⭐️

@mountainaddict, its not the season pass that's the issue, its the costs once there compared to other Euro ski areas!

I wonder whether Aletsch Arena will ever end up on the pass?

Good question
There is a rivalry between Magic and Oberwallis
For next season circa half of the OW areas have defected to Magic
So would expect OW's days are numbered

@mountainaddict, yeah I got it, don't worry Smile Was just trying to point out the main issue wasn't the lift pass price!

@hd, hadn't heard of the Oberwallis pass, thanks. At CHF1,100 I can't see many skiers buying it over the vastly cheaper, vastly bigger Magic Pass.

Indeed - previously the choice was Oberwallis pass for the German speaking areas in er Wallis (with a residents discount bringing it down to about CHF800 IIRC) and Magic for the French side of the röstigraben (bearing in mind the <CHF400 offer is for a limited time period before it also heads up towards 800). But that distinction is becoming more and more blurred.

I bought our Magic Passes for chf429 this morning just before the price rise. In the event they only rose by 30 francs and that price is now fixed until 5th September which seems much longer than usual.
I also purchased the optional insurance for an 8% surcharge which is good value considering it includes search and rescue.

399 CHF is great deal for a season pass.... Though with such low cost would love to know how the economics work out for the smaller stations (say a La Fouly or Nax). Unlike a Zinal or Saas Fee these aren't really tourist hot spots.

I assume the income divided up electronically based on skier numbers? The magic pass has become so big any small Valas resort probably can't afford not to be part of it. Critical mass means only the really big resorts (Verbier / Zermatt) can afford to do their own thing.

If it gets more people skiing regularly then that is a good thing : but hopefully the economics stack up for all participants big and small.

@Haggis_Trap, ....we've chatted to the community in Nax, Vercorin etc.

Magic Pass has helped them.

Income from MPass holders using lifts = negligible but more than nothing, since people would not normally make the effort to ski there. There is SOME negative offset of regulars using the MPass rather than getting a local pass.

The BIG THING is - we go to Nax, we buy lunch, we don't take sandwiches. This is good for them; definitely good income. We then stop in the shop and buy some milk and bread. This is even better for Nax. We then go back in the Summer. This is good economically for Nax...etc etc

In Vercorin, we pay for parking, we go to the restaurant at the top, we stop at the end of the day in the nice cafe in the square, and we go into the shop. All good for Vercorin.

Here's some analysis and figures from the first years of the MPass:

^ thanks, good news : assuming community is able to run uplift as loss leader to benefit the rest of the local economy (shops, bars accomodation etc)

Anyone remember the old gondola at Grand St Bernard? Great place to ski but sadly long since defunct.

We had the Magic Pass for the season just ended. At 399 CHF it is outstanding value and we were 'in profit' from day six onwards. I just wish Saas Grund would hurry up and jump ship from the Oberwallis to Magic! Very Happy

Happy days!

How's the snow been for Magic Pass users this season?

Any rumours about when next season's pass will go on sale, or about new ski area additions?

We were out for 6 weeks and spent most of the time over 2000m, ie 2 weeks Saas Fee, a week in Val d'Anniviers and a week on Glacier 3000. Next to no decent snow in any of the pre Alps or Jura virtually all of which were closed by the end of Feb, even my favourite spot at Les Mosses which is all over 1400m.
It was mostly very good snow up high but we only experienced a couple of modest snowfalls during our trip.
So a different take to Valais2. I should own up to being a carving focused snowboarder and my wife being a fair weather (and fair piste) skier so hard hardpack, scraped hardpack with bumps and moguls isn't our thing. Neither is off piste, not that there was much unless going further than piste side.
Very disappointed not to be able to visit any of the smaller resorts in Fribourg, Vaude and Jura (travelling in motorhome), especially since we had similar conditions about four years ago on our last trip there. Will go again though.

@valais2, @BoardieK, good to hear two different viewpoints, thanks. It's definitely been one of those seasons where altitude is key.

@denfinella, Just looked, we bought 23/24 pass at the end of last March. We have had one each since they were launched, and the kids (grown up) have dipped in and out depending on where they’ve been working. I can only report on Val d’Anniviers conditions this year and they have been pretty good, but late January and early February were more like previous Easter trips on the lower slopes. Conditions last weekend were excellent all over the mountain, and friends out there this week look set for the best conditions of the season.
Other benefits of the Magic pass including discounted rail/bus tickets have been useful, as has the ski service discount. Never worked out what to do with the “magics” that we’ve accumulated on the app.
Planning to visit more resorts on the pass next year after we finish working.

Email inviting us to buy next year's pass has just landed this afternoon. There are a handful of new small/very small resorts in France (Jura) and Italy. Early Bird price remains unchanged at CHF399 Smile

Thanks all.

Yep I noticed it went on sale today! Monts Jura is a useful addition - the gondola base station is only 20 mins from Geneva airport...

P.S. and Jura sur Leman, which is the cross-border Dole / Tuffes area and (I think) the biggest Jura area Smile
