Hello!
Looking for some random advice if anyone can help?
The usual pre-winter routine of talking myself into a purchase. Will go to a shop for fitting but trying on a few boots to work out options.
Have been skiing a Scarpa freedom rs for the last five years in a 27.5/28. Love them and the flex. Perfect fit but getting a bit battered and a limited walk mode.
So looking for another boot around a 130 flex in 27/27.5 for 70/30 use. Weight not a huge thing and need them to drive piste and powder skis.
Loved the idea of the Tigard 130 but tried them in a 27.5 and volume was huge over the instep. Crazy fit!
Also liked the look of the Quattro from Scarpa but very low volume and crushed my instep. Opposite prob.
Tried the Maestrale rs and a little too much volume and too touring orientated perhaps. Technica Cochise was too tight and the HV version didn’t feel snug enough. Zero G last felt small for me also.
Will try a few more at the shop but from trying a mate’s pair and fit reviews I’m interested in the atomic Hawx 130 XTD (24 pre-boa) with a prime last (100 vs 101 in my freedoms) which I reckon can work. Seen some good deals in these but can’t find a pair to try out. I can order and return but would definitely get these baked by someone who knows what they are doing.
Will also look at other boots when I go to the shop but just like the look of the Hawx and nerding out. Appreciate weight is similar to what I’m on with a bigger ROM.
Any views welcomed and not trying to avoid a fitting. Just limited options at my local shop.
Thanks
James

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

The Atomic Hawx 130 XTD seems like a cool choice, especially if you’re digging the specs and have heard good things about it. Just remember, the fit is everything, so definitely try to get them baked at a shop if you can.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

liner mold yes, but don't be too quick to bake the shell, if you need volume everywhere yes, but if you just need a little width or a little instep height, much better to do a local heating of that area as when you bake the shell you will lose some of the rearfoot fit and integrity

@kesone1, I went Freedom SL > Atomic Hawx > Maestrale RS.
I'd say the Maestrale RS are bit stiffer than the SLs.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks all! Did you get the prime last or squeezed into an ultra? And will def only bake the liners.

@kesone1, I'd think it was the prime but tbh don't recall. I've a wider foot and they needed some work by @CEM, to fit them up.
