Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Visiting Dolomati Superski for 6 days (Corvara) - mistake to not have a rental car?

We are coming from austria and leaving from venice so the one way fees are quite high. Looks like we are leaning towards buses/trains. Is this a mistake? Will we miss out majorly?

You won't need the car while you are there.
If you want to do the Hidden Valley most people use the bus or taxi to get to the start anyway.

You don’t need a car when skiing for a week but public transport for that route isn’t great, assuming you take the Cortina express you need to be careful/lucky with timings and might need to get a taxi from Cortina which could end up costing as much as a hire car.

Not sure if I'm seeing this right, but...I checked Sixt and a pickup in Innsbruck and drop in Venice doesn't look that spendy...hmm.

Another option would be to take the train to Bolzano and rent a car there. One-way fees might be low to none inside Italy.

We enjoy having a car in Corvara. Nice for going to dinner depending on where your lodging is located. Also for longer trips to outlying areas, or, to make the day shorter if we know we won't be Sellaronda-ing.

But...you wouldn't really need a car in Corvara. Does make schlepping the luggage easier though.

Strike that...one way fee on Sixt from Innsbruck is over 500 euro. Wasn't showing up before.

Pretty quick and some no-change trains from Innsbruck to Bolzano:

I agree with @Garfield, @richb67, and @Brian in SLC. You won’t need a car while you’re there.

We used to hire a car but in last few years with price hikes we find taxi one way which is shared with another couple and cortina express bus back to Venice is preferred. Car often sat outside our apartment for the whole week.
Also much more relaxing.

Agreed, a car is not needed in Corvara if you are staying walking distance to lifts, but might be useful for transfers and if you are saving by choosing cheaper accommodation commuting distance away from the lifts.

I'm picking up a car in Venice for my late Jan trip, I initially booked for £117 with Locauto for 6 days, but now getting quotes as low as £22 for 6 days from lesser known companies. I'll probably rebook with Alamo for £57 or Locauto for £75, as I've had good cars and no hassle with them before.

I'm staying in a very reasonable B&B in Falcade a short drive from the lifts, but will probably also use it to commute to other resorts if the weather is fine.

When we've stayed in Corvara only thing we use the car for is shopping as the apartment is next to the piste but a bit away from the shops.
As above it can be useful for visiting other resorts but plenty to do without it.

Well I just drove from Venice to Corvara, it's 2:45 transfer time but 45 in highway and 2h mountain road for 100km, that seems to never end. We area couple, so transfer prices are very high vs car hire (90 € + toll + gas), even if the car sits at the hotel all week.....

Just got back from Corvara, our first trip to the Dolomites. A car wasn’t required at all. All the hotels not in the town centre seem to have frequent minibus transit to the main lifts base (ours did too) and there are frequent ski buses.

Skied the Sellaronda and others in the hotel skied Hidden Valley using the bus to get there.

No, didn't have/pay for winter tyres, but chains included (and had to use them last week) (Italycarrent through zest).

I checked conditions and decided to take normal tires + snow chain (mandatory but free), as it warm enough. Still ca rental in autoeurope.com with winter tires for 9 days were around 280-320€
