Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

We are considering ischgl for pre Xmas trip next season and one of our group is very cautious intermediate how is the runs? I know avoid the home red run. Any recommendations for gluten free lunch on the hill (Hotel covers breakfast and evening meal). Any good recommendations for instructors for private lessons?

A cautious intermidiate who's happy to take a nice comfy gondola down the mountain will be perfectly happy in Ischgl. Loads of nice wide blues around Idalp and from the border into the Swiss side, and 22/23 on the right hand side of the map too. From there the more experienced skiers can test out some of the reds and work out what how far to push the cautious one. You'll also find that many of the lifts with a nice blues will also have more challenging runs to the same place so what we used to do was take it in turns to split the group, half going red/half blue with the more cautious members of the group. Meant the better skiers didn't feel they were always pootling/cautious skiers didn't feel they were holding everyone else up and spoiling their holiday so trying to rush.
As for food - generally in Austria you end up searching for gluten and green stuff after a few days of the "meat and 2 meat" diet.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Good early season snow record.
Excellent straightforward blues at mid mountain level.
Gluten free lunches certainly possible as we went many times with a friend with Coeliac but I don't remember any particular recommendations.
We used the Samnaun ski school as it was cheaper and we had already been there but it's quite a schlepp across if it's for the very cautious intermediate to get there in time. The actual skiing across is reasonably straightforward.

@WASHOUT
, All the above is true though bear in mind that December can be stormy, cold & dark not necessarily ideal for a cautious skier when there is no tree cover. Of course it might be blue skies with half a metre of fresh powder....
