Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

White Peaks Challenge 2005

Poster: A snowHead
Has anyone ever done this?

I'm thinking about signing up for 2005 but I'd love to know if it's something I could achieve....I'm not a high speed skier. I'm also a bit fazed by the idea of trying to raise such a large amount of sponsorship (£1400 Shocked ) is this really acheivable by your average person?

homphomp, talk to Wear the fox hat. He did it this year, in Austria.

homphomp, I'll sponsor you (but for a bit less than £1400!) WTFH used the www.justgiving.com website to manage sponsorship and he reached his target.

homphomp, I haven't done the 2005 one, but I did do it this year.
Raising the money is actually not as difficult as you might think. I went to my bosses, and work colleagues, then to friends & family.
You can also do things to raise it - car washes/cake sales/etc.
It's also useful to set up a webpage with www.justgiving.com
People can then sponor you by credit card, and in multi currencies, also using that, you can get giftaid on the donations. Unlike paypal, they don't charge you commission, but instead, take a cut of the giftaid. So, if someone sponsors you £10, the giftaid makes that £12.80, and you end up getting about £12, i.e. still more than what they actually gave in the first place.

As for the skiing, if you're happy skiing blues/reds you'll cope fine. On the first morning, everyone is split into groups, depending on ability. (and a big point is: don't show off in the ski off, or you'll be put in a higher group. Better to be in a lower group, and you can take it easier, than be in a higher one, and end up exhausted)

I can put up some photos later.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Wear The Fox Hat Thanks for the info! My main worry is that Mr HH is thinking about it too that would mean £2800, with only one set of rellys to touch up!!

I did the White Peaks in 2003 (and sponsored WTFH for his 2004 one). It was a great experience.

We skied pretty fast, there were three instructors in my group besides the Austrian group leader and there was just a bit of competition to see who could get closest to him. Immense fun, including the full-speed ski down from Hans Schnapps on top of Zell am See, on a moderate black run, after a couple of drinks, or maybe more.

One of the skiers in another group was blind and skied with a guide...and I think he completed the challenge or anyway most of it!

As for sponsoring - I was rather pleased that I could raise the money though at the time I had been in the UK for less than two years (hence didn't know that many people). But I work in a large office and that helped.
