Zürs has been planning to become carfree for ages.
Can’t see it happening before Lech has its tunnel. Which is not in sight either.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

An analysis of climate data shows that winter temperatures have risen by just under 1 degree in the past 50 years. On the other hand, the summers have become almost three degrees warmer.
At the Galzig measuring station (2090 meters above sea level), for example, winter temperatures have risen by only 0.9 degrees in the past 50 years, while in summer the thermometer climbed three times as high. "The ten-year average shows a steep and continuous increase in summer
As far as the amount of snow is concerned, there is little change in Lech: The total amounts of fresh snow have not changed statistically verifiably since 1946/47, with the largest snow depths even since 1926/27
The Tourist Board is currently promoting how St Anton am Arlberg is self suffcient in Energy...and how green & reusable/recyclable (water) the Snow Making system is.
Obviously looking after their own local interests but not sure how the regional towns will feel about it if the Lights & Heating go out this winter...
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Being booked for a week in January, I hope so.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Way overdue..Safety Infrastructure New Foot/Cycle bridge over the Highway up at Mooserkreuz ....
There is hardly much difference if anything from last season
However there is a warning of Price Changes
The prices listed here are based on calculations carried out in August 2022. However, actual developments of the key cost factors used in the calculation of these prices (e.g. energy costs, inflation etc.) cannot be estimated
at present. For this reason, it is possible that the prices may need to be re-calculated in the event of corresponding increases. We therefore reserve the right to adjust the prices for ski passes at a later date – but of course not
retrospectively after the purchase of a ski pass. In all cases, the price notified at this (later) date shall be payable.
Otherwise we refer to our General Terms and Conditions of Business.
Other big areas like Sölden have annouced their price are alteady going up end of September . They were already 10% up on last sesson so it could be another 10-20% who knows but they warned it still might not be the last.....
Arlberg will not be immune to price increases
So once again get in now and secure your lift deals before asap.

We should get some snow on the peaks this weekend !!
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Just noticed this update on the SkiArlberg site:
"Ski Arlberg ski tickets can be purchased at the ski pass ticket offices and in the webshop from the start of the season, on 02 December 2022."
Then you can post your own questions or snow reports...

Hi Stanton,
If one were to arrive in St Anton on 24 December, would it be possible to find a supermarket/butcher to buy food? And what time would they shut, do you think? Likewise ski hire shops? Would anything be open on 25 December?
Danke Schoen!

@James the Last, In my experience yes all open until approx 3-4pm on 24th, and all open as normal 25th. The Austrians celebrate evening of 24th not 25th, which is just a normal day.

@James the Last,
We are planning to be there from the start of December, staying in St Jacob for the season. If you need us to get anything for you then let us know and we can get it. Cheers.
That usually means significant closures on the Gampen, probably for 3 weeks, from set-up to events to takedown.
I have seen reports that suggest 500 competitors in the Juniors. That will put some pressure on accommodation availability.
Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:

Significant closures on piste or significant closures on gampenbahn? On piste is no biggie, but if the lift is closed due to competition its gonna suck with ques on galzigbahn in the morning and during the day i guess?

That's why they do it in January.
And this years January looks to become very quiet anyway.
Bookings for whole season are down, down, down.....(not just in St.Anton)
Gampenbahn will not close

@Kimpadoo, assuming it is the usual race track, it starts just below Kapall and uses the Kandahar & Fang black runs with a diversion onto a blue piste to take in the Eisfall moguls. It does block off most of the runs back to Nasserine. Even on non race / training days it is not ideal as the track is usually sprayed with water to create a hard fast surface, not friendly for most recreational skiers.

@munich_irish, many years ago, I have skied across the water-injected track a few days after the Men’s DH finished. Despite being groomed overnight, it took the definition of “blue ice” to a new level. The best I could do is still balanced and look for safety on the far side.
From StA:
Quote:
…. public ski traffic will be affected as little as possible. Only small sections of the Gampen/Fang area (part of the black slope no. 34 & no. 42) will be closed during this period.
The lifts and cable carts will not be affected at all; therefore, you can enjoy the great slopes in St. Anton am Arlberg as usual.
Kind regards from #stantonamarlberg
Good thing this year im staying at an apartment at crawling-distance from Mooserwirt, i usually stay at hotel close to nassereinbahn otherwise

We always go 3rd week January but have changed plans for 22/23 season based on the above, have been there on previous occasions when races and large international conferences are on and the town generally gets super busy and eating out can become a pain, bookings etc. The closure of the south facing Gampen slopes has never been an issue but the influx of teams (not the participants, more the leery management on expenses) gives the town a different vibe ime.
Anyone got any updates on how the potential electricity grab by central power grid from EWA may affect the lifts and water cannons next season? We are booked for Christmas for an early season piste slide, but it’ll be not much fun if they cant make artificial snow?
Yeah, the vibe is different during a big event, but one that I remember well & positively was the 2004 FIS DH. Three Austrians: Maier, Eberharter, and some other Austrian dude filled the podium. The presentation was in the carpark of the Schwartz Adler. To say there were some excited and excitable Austrians in town would be an understatement, but in a good way. The place was partying!
I am hoping that there will be even less people than usual on the pistes during the races, but it will be what it will be. The eating out bit is not an issue for us. We rarely go out and, when we do, it usually way down the valley for something different, eg Strengen (forgotten the name of the restaurant).
Have not yet heard anything how energy availability/restrictions may play out this winter.

The rumor doing the rounds in St.Anton is that although they have increased lift card prices, they will not open all of the lifts (like last winter). They will hide behind energy saving explanations, the truth is that they cant find the workers. Or that they are unwilling to pay the money to attract staff.

@Ld, is it a rumour, or is the truth....And what then is the truth? Or are you just rumoring?
