 Poster: A snowHead

Hello all, please help me decide how to best go about getting to Val Gardena. Arriving end of February, going from Verona, just two of us, staying for a week in St. Cristina and want to go to Venice after skiing. Was looking for some reasonable transfers as we probably won' need a car much once in Val Gardena, since we have half board hotel, but could not find any. So now thinking of renting a car, but can't figure out best way to go about it. Should we get the car round trip from/to Verona, and then just hop on a train to Venice, or should we get car from Verona and with drop off in Venice on Piazzale Roma/near train station? Price difference is about $100, but not sure about traffic coming into Venice etc? Any advice? Thanks

Second option is better, I think. Last time we drove from Val G. To Venice the traffic wasn't bad in early March. And we went all the way to the massive garage outside the city proper.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Train from Verona to Venice is/was a doddle and Venice is best without a car. Tickets will be well short of £100 for the pair of you. Verona also merits a bit of your sight-seeing time if you've not been.

Thanks, did you have to pay for parking garage if we drop the car at Piazzale Roma? Can't find info on that

Yes, we'll spend two nights in Verona before heading to V. Gardena, and two nights in Venice after

I think so but can't recall. We drove to Venice, parked for 3 nights then drove to airport to drop off the car and fly home. We had our kids though so we just stashed our ski gear in the car in the garage.

Where are your flights arriving and departing from?
Always best to drop off a rental car in same place as pick-up. I can imagine that dropping at Piazzale Roma will incur a hefty fee.
It's all probably doable on public transport, trains and buses, but it may take longer with connections and may not fit with your arrival/departure timings.
A car is more convenient, but there's always the problem of where to park it.
Best not to try and park at Venice, the charges there are very high.
Did you not consider the logistics of it all when you booked it??
