Poster: A snowHead

Hi all,
I usually ski in daleboot custom boots because I've got weird feet / ankles and normal front entry ski boots cripple me. I've gone on a long weekend trip without them (the boots live at my flat in France) and taken an old pair of rear entry boots as the only other option. However they don't seem to work safely in modern bindings.
Is there a modern rear entry boot design on the market, or a way to modify the sole plates on old boots to make them work on modern bindings? Or at least a modern binding that can accommodate old boots? I'm at a loss here, and might just go home.
Cheers

@Fatenbread, Nordica HF range. Modern take on rear entry. Get great reviews

Magic thanks. I found a pair of Nordica HF in the first rental shop I walked into in Morzine. They are like slippers.
If they ski as well as they feel I'll be buying a pair when I get back, to save me the two trips to Abingdon and £800 when my Daleboots finish falling to bits.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Another vote for Nordica HF, Mrs B has broken both ankles in the past and finally gave up and relented to the need for Rear Entry boots three weeks ago. They are a revelation she can put them straight on rather than struggling for 20 mins (I don't exaggerate) trying to get her old boots on.
Got very good advice from CEM over the phone and then great service from Intersport in Bourg St Maurice . Only problem is that they are so popular not many shops have them left in stock - we nearly drove to Chambery as they were listed as definitely having a pair but luckily a ski shop owner here rang around locally for us.

@Fatenbread, be aware you probably want them properly fitted, they are sort of designed for that. And if they fit like slippers they're probably too big! NB two friends have them and are delighted. Bro in law's shop stocked them 3 (?) years ago, just one of each size, sold out in a couple of weeks these days they carry rather a few more pairs!

@boredsurfin, Given what trade's been like this year I could not guarantee that they'd have any left. Fleeing off the shelves.

Aye, these ones will do for three days in these conditions, but I'll get them properly fitted when I buy them. They are comfortable and not too big.

My wife has had cramped toe issue for many years and owned countless boots, customised, inner soles etc. she could not ski for more than a couple of hours without having to stop and take them off. She bought some Nordica HF the other day and skied two full days without issue - still need some tweaking around the ankle but they are “life changing” for her.

I am looking to rent these boots in Morzine - can you remember which ski shop? Fingers crossed!

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

the HF works really well for the right shaped foot, but it is fairly high volume and adjustment is a little limited
teaser, Nordica have a new model for next season HF pro, which is a 100mm last and has a bit more adjustment on it, i can see this one being an even bigger seller than the current one (which will remain)
