Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

1 Ski day en route to Les Arcs

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi folks,

We are staying in Peisey-Vallandry for a week this Easter and we typically like to maximise our skiing (usually aim for ~8 days). Last year we stopped off to ski for one day at Les Arcs en route to Tignes. We stayed one night in BSM and took the funicular up.

Just browsing google maps I thought about staying the night in Moutiers and then maybe heading up to either Courchevel or Meribel for the day before arriving at our hotel in PV.

Are there any other, more convenient resorts I am overlooking here? Would be very grateful for any suggestions.

We will be driving from the UK (about 2h from tunnel) and our main accommodation is Sun-Sun.

Valmorel would be a good shout for one day.

+1 for Valmorel and I bet you will want to go back for longer than a day.

Les Sept Laux would also be a decent shout

Slightly further, but not by much...Ste Foy, literally drive into ski station, you can park within about 100 mtrs of pass office and lift for a great day skiing. Very different ski area and feel in comparison to Paradi-ski domain, good food places too, really relaxed destination.

La Rosiere also, just a little closer to Piesey and contrasting again to make a different day out. Someone should be able to give the name of most convenient entrypoint as I can never remember off hand.

Accommodation possibilities, Ste Foy "village" on the Tignes Road or somewhere like Seez for a night close to either of these ski areas.

Les Ecudets is certainly the closest, just above Seez, not always possible to ski down tho

@ski_free, you dont say how many in party ?

But you could ski either La Ros or Ste Foy then stay the night in Villaroger (most northerly point of Les Arcs) then driver go to Piesey, while any others get a ticket and ski across from Villaroger to Piesey Very Happy on the Sunday.

Thanks for the feedback so far folks!

@ski3: 3 people, 2 adults and 1 child. The child is comfortable on blues and reds.

Valmorel is an interesting on, went there as a teenager once, but have little recollection. Piste map shows many drag lifts, is it easy to navigate the area while avoiding those (not much fun as a snowboarder).

Ste Foy: Think might go for that one next year, as we plan on going to Val d'Isere, and its more on the way then.

Les Ecudets: I gues that one depend on the prevailing conditions in late March.

@ski_free, your original idea of overnight in Moutiers and a day skiing 3V is less of a detour to your destination at P-V.
Brides Les Bains closest lift access.

Villaroger is the most Easterly part of Les Arcs, Arc 1600 is the most northerly if you discount La Grange

Valmorel or its French neighbour Saint François Longchamp would be my suggestion.

After reading Denfinella's report yesterday I'd be tempted by Pralognan La Vanoise (I know it's not on the way....) https://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=167827#5243697

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

If you're staying in Peisey-Vallandry I'd discount Ste Foy and La Rosiere as they're both a fair chunk past PV

Valmorel or Meribel would indeed seem to be the logical choice. However, it might even be worth a night in Albertville (the Ibis Styles is very easy to get to) and a trip up to Areches-Beaufort, as detailed in @denfinella's thread above? Albertville would also give access to other resorts in the Val d'Arly like Crest Voland. Even if you don't choose to go there, then it's worth stopping in Albertville rather than Moutiers to get to Valmorel as Moutiers to Valmorel means comig back up the valley

Pralognan La Vanoise is quite a long drive up the valley. I seem to remember it being about 1:30hrs from Les Arcs.

Off route distance extra, La Rosiere at 3.5 miles with Ste Foy at 6 miles in addition (both measured from Piesey destination) to the diversion from Moutiers to Valmorel, that's each way. Not really a barrier of significant level.

Brides Les Bains is closest lift access
BLB is a 10-15 min drive from Moutiers - plus a 25 or 30 min gondola ride up to (and back from) the ski slopes at Meribel.

St Martin de Belleville (for access to the 3 Vallees) is a 20-25 min drive from Moutiers. SMB would provide direct access to the ski lifts and you can ski right back to the village. It has easy parking too - free when I was last there.

You'd be saving time overall - and get more time on the slopes - with the St Martin option.

As has been mentioned, Les Ecudets, for access to La Rosiere, is another good option - the runs back to the parking are good fun, if open.

Brides les Bains is only 5 minutes from Moutiers (OK 7 at a push) unless there is crazy traffic.
St Martin not a bad shout as well, though quite ‘off centre’ depending on where you want to ski. If I was heading up that road I would probably continue the extra 5/10 mins to Menuires, for easier access/return from VT etc…
Valmorel also a good shout for an ‘on the way’ option - Areches-Beaufort great too, but can suffer quite quickly in a warm spring.

Thanks for all the input folks.

I think we may end up staying in Brides les Bains. Not much more expensive than Moutiers or Albertville, and there are hotels available close to the gondola.

Will also look into St Foy and La Rosiere for '25.
