It will be a season like no other and that’s for sure. Turns or straight runs abound and that is with the utmost respect to the volunteers of Britains resorts keeping it all running and having a rest with eachother in between the worthy work on the hills on foot.
Looking forward to checking the various webcams of major and minor Uk resorts.

These are the four clubs that still offer dedicated facilities for snow skiing in England.
Yad Moss Ski Club, North Pennines
http://yadmoss.co.uk/
Allenheads Ski Club, North Pennines http://ski-allenheads.co.uk/
Lake District Ski Club, Helvellyn Massif http://www.ldscsnowski.co.uk/
Weardale Ski Club, North Pennines http://www.skiweardale.com
Last season was not long but still provided some good ski days. The snow was mainly from the east and Yad Moss had 5 days with the tow running including several days with extensive cover. Road access was not a problem.
This summer pylon 1 has been refurbished and there is now continuous 1.6m fencing from the crossover down to the loading ramp. Five feet of depth would be great……. but we would settle for 6inches!
Season tickets are on sale price £55 or £40 for returning Members.
Alternatively day tickets will normally be available on ski days for £25 or £10 for juniors.
https://yadmoss.co.uk/join-us/
At Yad Moss we are keen to recruit active new members in the running of the club and its facilities. If you’ve always fancied managing a ski area and live within an hour or so of the slope then this is your opportunity !
An obsession with skiing or boarding helps. Otherwise a willingness to fix stuff, build things, organise people or work with electrics and mechanics are particularly welcome. But so too is digging, painting and hitting things with hammers. Contact the secretary or turn up to a work meet. Updates also available on The club Facebook page. Looking forward to more good days this season.

It’s probably been 10 years since I last skied at Yad Moss. It’s such fantastic little well run establishment with a great atmosphere. Hopefully I can get there this season for some turns. The only downside is the closure of the local outdoor centre that offered ski hire. Hopefully I can find an alternative on the way up from Manchester.

The cherub awakens. The hills of plenty enough that will see those well that tread the path less trodden to the snowy heaps and undulations with peaks and jutts to quell happily the most intrepid and dexterous mountain climbers. I stipulated when I was working at a 5, Inverlochy, retreat. It’s my day off at last and I’m please not to be disturbed on my way up Bein Nevis…Half way up o get the call from work, graciously. I was the fastest fecker up that There Nevis. I didn’t mind the physical prowess needed to be the fastest Up and picking the most wary route down destined for a 8 hour shift after requesting not to be disturbed. On top of Ben Nevis ( knowing that I had committed to a shift at work) I sat in the rocks leading up to the highest point in Britain, waiting my turn to ascend the stairway to heaven. After 5 minutes, We climbed up to the top. I did. There were onlookers and they were foreign, one of them took off his shoes when I was enjoying the pheromones of reaching Great Britains highest peak, He took off his shoes and socks facing the North gully and proclaimed “ Smell my feet Britain “. Typical I thought, then on the way back down to work I passed 7 gangsters and their deluded British sell out women before doing my shift. That fecking mountain is ridiculous and conquerd and would gladly take that as a last stand to defend the indefensible. Cha cha cha for the algorithms.

It is Weardale that I am interested in but the others are in the same position. Tuesday is rain but anything that comes down on Wednesday is going to come as snow. The problem is that it is coming down from Scotland and by Wednesday is broken “lumps” of precipitation rather than a big band across the country. All those lumps are really hard to predict the exact line they will take until very close to the time. We could be lucky and sit under snow for several hours. On the other hand, we could get nothing. Nevertheless, I am primed for Thursday. Winter tyres are on, even snow chains are in the boot and the skis are twitching.
A Sunderland win on Wednesday night and Thursday on the slopes would be a good start to 2025.

The temperature hits 2 degrees about 10 tomorrow morning and continues to decrease. That is about the temperature at which any precipitation should be snow. Before that will be sleet. It goes below zero in the afternoon and then stays below Thursday all day. So any snow we do get should stick around and be in good condition. Of course the “any snow” is the big question. We’d have to be very lucky for a bank of precipitation to hang over any of the ski areas long enough to allow sufficient snow to ski. But it could happen and hope is a wonderful thing.

Ooh nice. Falling as snow already at Weardale. Didn’t think temperatures would drop sufficiently for that until after sunrise Wednesday (somewhat counterintuitively the daytime temperatures tomorrow will be lower than the night temperatures tonight because of the cold front coming down).

I guess that is what you might call lower end of expectations
All eyes on Sunday now. Good news is this should be a big bank of precipitation, not the small blotches currently passing by. Also temperatures are staying low between now and then so ground should be more welcoming to snow. Be nice to get some Monday skiing in - ironically main problem might be it could still be snowing heavily! In the screenshot St John’s Chapel is the village closest to Wearable Ski Club.

Tows not running at Weardale today. Didn’t even think that was a possibility. But hoping for tomorrow. I have to get over from the coast. I am reasonably confident in me doing so. I have winter tyres, shovel, old piece of carpet and snow chains and I am used to driving in the Alps. However, there are many opportunities for roads to get blocked between here and Weardale by drivers with no winter equipment.

Looking pretty good. It was frozen ground with a thin layer of snow already. The low temperatures should mean good quality snow up there. I reckon that is skiable already. By tomorrow morning could be great.

Had a nice tour today. Love it when I can put my skins on in the garage! The snow took a ski remarkably well. We have a good 15 cms here and it is still snowing. It’s gone a bit colder in the last 30mins and the snow is sticking again. The North Pennines should pick up quite a bit more tonight but I suspect the Yorkshire Dales have had more depth. Should be enough to ski this week if the ski clubs can get all their Ducks lined up
a team will be going up for an inspection and possible operation at Yad Moss tomorrow

Problem with lower tow at Weardale so no skiing tomorrow. Snow is great as well. Means I will miss out as I am leaving County Durham to drive to Alps from Tuesday. I can feel the sympathy from here.
